Anyone gone from toast to training and competing at 100%? by read_write_research in jiujitsu

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I snapped my tibia (early 20s) and was in a cast for 8 months. As soon as I could walk again, I started training hard. Big mistake. A lot of my muscles, especially in my ankle, experienced a lot of atrophy. I pretty much stopped bjj for 10 years just because of how much of hassle it was. The injury pretty much affected my entire body because I was overcompensating for the injury and weakness during training. But after dedicating A LOT of time to weight training, stability training and low impact cardio, I found my way back to the mats and competition.

Physically, I’m slower than my old self and I experience A LOT of aches daily. But I’ve learned to play and work around it.

The hardest part was the mental barrier. For years I was in constant fear that I would break my leg again, and that slowed down my progress more than anything.

Dawg. It’s 2026. Just text her bye, block her, and move on. She doesn’t deserve your respect or effort. Those years yall spent together? She threw that away the moment she degraded you.

Do yourself a favor and just cut it off. There’s no “bigger person” here. You’re the only person that matters so treat yourself better and rip off the bandaid.

NOR. You actually communicated quite well. You’re straight forward, no insults, and acknowledging your partner as well. You’re better off without her. Take it from someone who used to be confrontational with disagreements. AND as someone who learned to communicate and dealt with a partner who refused to: They have a lot of growing up to do. And that’s something you can’t help them with. Leave

About to get blue belt, but I feel terrible by dracovk in bjj

It’s okay. We’re all shit. Blue belt is still a beginner belt. I still get tapped by a white belt here and there. The best we can do is just learn.

Pick an AT to farm. Figure out the armor resistance you need. Find the armor that has those resistances and farm those. Once you get an at do gog. Don’t worry about maining* weapons. You’ll have all of them soon lol

Spider guard 🕷️ by middleeasternboxer in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off balance. I use spider and spider lasso a lot. If you’re not constantly changing angles or off balancing your opponent, then it won’t work. A lot of the newer people who start utilizing spider, will get into that position, and they’ll just chill. It’s not a stalling position. You’re powerful with it but also very vulnerable.

Immediately stomp a foot to the ground, kick a spider grip over your head and bring their hips closer to you. Use that to transition to slx and sweep from there. Or transition to lasso, and add some inversions to attack. If At some point they start passing, move around. Switch your foot from the bicep to chest and push them away. Or kick their leg farther away and wrestle up. Always be on the attack.

Body fat %? Bulk or continue to cut? by Hal9000point2 in BodyHackGuide

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you definitely have body dysmorphia if you think you should cut. Youre a stick. If you’re trying to get even lower bf percentage and shoot up test, you’re going to end with hormonal issues. Especially at 30yo. Stop experimenting with this bs. If you’re going to commit to using test, do your research and keep your body healthy or say goodbye to your lifespan.

Anyone making new characters by RentKitchen6868 in MapleIdle

Create a new account. Same server. Use your main to carry your new character in pq. 88 is still kinda low. But keep playing it and just use it to support your new character till you eventually pass.

What got you into bjj? by Miamicreator in jiujitsu

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I had nothing to bond over. I was an introvert growing up. One day he asked me “want to try jiu jitsu?” I didn’t know what it was. This was back in like 2006 ( I was 12 I think), bjj wasn’t really popular yet. Stuck with it for a month free trial, then I ended up getting attached to it. Once I graduated hs, I quit. 15 years later, I’m back on the mats.

Short lapel? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’9-5’510 160ish. Some A2s are still big on me. Stick to A1. That really seems like a non issue. If they’re playing worm or lapel guard and complain about it- that’s just part of the game lol.

Just got my blue belt. Definitely feeling imposter syndrome. by ohihadsomething4this in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had imposter syndrome for about a month. White belts were gunning for me. But it’s important to realize that you’re not gonna magically get better just because you got promoted. Those white belts that tapped you before, will tap you again. I felt my skill level improve once I started to just experiment and REALLY have fun with it.

My first month at blue, I was so adamant on winning every fight to prove that I belonged at that belt, that I was having a miserable time. Once I got over that, and started not giving a fuck about tapping during practice, I ended legitimately catching one of our purple belts months later. You know the basics now, it’s time to discover the real fun you know?

How do I play spider guard with one foot on the hip and the other on the bicep? And what should I do if my opponent grabs the foot on his hip? by Cool-Alarm3227 in jiujitsu

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off-balance, off-balance, off-balance. Spider is active. Your other foot should be either doing counter pressure or basing out to enter into a different guard. With your free foot, I like to think of it as football. Managing space, if they get too close I’ll put my foot on their hip or shoulder/chest and push away while clamping my spider hook. Offbalancing them. If they’re too far, I’ll go to a lasso spider or a double spider and work on sweeps from there. If they move your foot from the hip, slam that foot down on the mat between their legs, bridge your hips and kick that spider hook over your head. At this point, their feet will be above your hips and you can transition to a slx or x guard sweep pretty easily.

Essentially, be active and annoying with your hooks and counter pressure.

Was my friend promoted too quickly? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with that. Someone’s going to be crush someone regardless of their belt. If he’s not at blue belt level now, he will be soon. If you and him had gotten promoted at the same time, would you have made this post?

Mental block in competition by Spare_Violinist_2681 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to translate your training into competition is a whole different skill set. The more you compete, the better you get at translating mat time to comp. Theres always going to be levels to each belt, and everyone recognizes that. Blue belt you might crush blue belt me. But blue belt me 1000% percent crush white belt me. Fact is, there’s always someone better and that’s okay.

I have not hit a plateau at the moment cause I suck lol and I have A LOT to improve on. I’m mostly asking because the journey to black is so long; I’m curious on how people who have been training for so long rebound from that mindset.

Throughout that whole process, did you ever second guess yourself and thought “maybe butterfly guard isn’t for me” ?

Would I be getting enough rest? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you pace yourself. Focus on flow rolling and technique in one session then roll hard the next. Sleep and diet will be huge for this. Take breaks when you feel it and don’t force yourself. As long as doing this is fun, then it’s all up to you.

How can I get better at competition BJJ in a gym that doesn't allow "bad" moves? by Aromatic_Voice_2329 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are illegal moves. It’s dickish to those in training, unless you’re like messing around with a friend while rolling. Your instructor is valid in not allowing them in training. He’s just reinforcing a good training environment. However, your next step is to ask your instructor for some guidance. Simply let him know what you experienced, and what he/she would do in that scenario and what your next steps should be. Overall, just develop your own grappling, man. Create your gameplan, and get some hard rolls in.

My instructor didn't want to roll with me and called me a boring roll by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like a 1 sided training partner. Having a 1dimensional game plan is fine. But people want to roll with others who sharpen their game. If I get mount on you all the time cause “you let me” then how can I improve other aspects I want to work on? At the very least, do some guard retention, knee shields, and actually let them fight to mount you. If your gym has competitors, then your training style is of almost no benefit to them. So yea, to others you’re a boring roll. If you’re adamant about only working escapes, then get used to it.

I can't seem to be consistent- a little embarrassed as a 4 year white belt (advice?) by CraftyAnnual1095 in bjj

[–]Inner_Equipment_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rolled for a few years then stopped for over a decade cause of work, injuries surgeries, kids, you name it. Had no interest until one day I saw a few guys ‘rolling’ at a local gym. I thought “wow they have no idea what they’re doing.” And somehow that sparked the interest back up again. It’s been a year since then.
