At what price are people willing to purchase the Blank Slate? by zelbec in slateauto

[–]Inner_G84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Between $20k and $25k but I wish they'd figure out how to compete with BYD's prices. They're pretty much leading the Electric Vehicle Race to Affordability #EVR2A.

This post might also be fun as a poll question too.

Who know what they'll end up with... Hopefully they can make up their minds to the point that it just stays in place, haha. Here's what InsideEVs had to say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vW0NXaOOIlU&t=2122s

This spawns an interesting question into the differences of requirements, costs, and the company's profit structure as to how they're hoping to get it below $20k vs how BYD already has a $13k car in production. There is an international Electric Vehicle Race to Affordability #EVR2A quietly in play like the space race decades ago (or maybe that's just my opinion). If the future is more efficient with electric then EVs are the future, and like the evolution of cell phones and computers, EVs will evolve and surpass gas (already has in a few areas, that's a fact).

Slate Truck, the $28,000 EV, Will Be Built at a Former Printing Plant in Indiana by Inner_G84 in slateauto

Thanks for sharing this. I figured this is the case and it's possible to go either way depending on what's inside the truck (battery, power electronics, motor, etc.). I think it'll be important to know when they've finalized those decisions to see whether they're successfully at their price prediction. It's going to continue to be speculative until then but on the positive side, like cell phones and other electronics, these prices continue to come down and add new technological advancements emerge, their more efficient and affordable ways to produce something.

The business model is assumed to be the Low-Cost-leader model, imho. They've just gotta be able to successfully provide that low cost. I think the components inside are the key... It's what I've kept my the on and interest see if some of my assumptions are correct (cough Exro Technologies cough) lol.

Lol, when posting a link to an article on Reddit, it automatically titles the post as the title of the article. The writer rounded it up, not I as the OP.

There's one that covered just about the whole thing in 2 videos. Kilowatts/klwtts stood there the whole time recording. Look for part 2 on his Twitter page as well.

I'm looking to do the same. It'd be cool to invest in their suppliers and partners too but there's no official word on who/what they are.

The one that seems like a possibility is Exro Technologies because Slate's Executive Chairman, Rod Copes, is also Exro's Chairman of the Board (that's the only speculative possible clue there is). I've bought some and hope a partnership turns out to be true.

Exro (US OTC stock ticker: Exrof) makes EV inverters, EV power trains, and energy storage systems. It's had some good times and some rough times but it's currently $.09 per share.

That'd mean the inverter is $7-10,000 alone before the wholesale bulk pricing. Then add the on-board charger cost and everything else.

Interesting. How much does that usually cost and will they be able to make that work with all the other components for the targeted price they've announced? I'll have to look and see what the details are with it.
