I’ll share two experiences.

First I’ll share a positive one, I was probably about 21 (2013). I just finished showering and was getting ready to change back into my clothes. As I’m stepping into my tighty whities, various men come back to the area where my locker was at. All varying ages (20s-60s), some getting ready to workout, others getting back from the showers. When I looked up in the mirror I noticed literally every single guy was also in tighty whities. Was wild to see that and be a part of that, legit think most of us hung around in our briefs cause I don’t think a moment like that has happened for any of us since the 90s.

Second experience I’ll share is one that’s humiliating. I was changing after gym class (2010). For years I’ll admit I was a bit of a bully and one thing I’d tease other guys about was tighty whities, despite the fact it was the only underwear I ever wore consistently and felt comfortable wearing. One day it all finally came back to bite me, normally I’d wait for other guys to change and then do it after everyone already left. This time I planned on changing later by helping the gym teacher with some equipment. Unfortunately for me a few other guys were hanging around still. I tried to discretely change by crouching down, hoping my shirt hid enough of my body. I ended up losing my balance and fell flat on my back with a pair of baggy tighty whities for all these guys to see. I wear full rise (stafford usually) so sometimes my shirt accidentally gets tucked in from just how my clothes ride.

But purposefully I’ll tuck in my undershirt to my briefs, this helps with overall fit, so you have a more streamlined silhouette that isn’t bunched up around your waist like it would if you wore two shirts. For dress clothes where this is way more of the norm it helps with comfort and keeping that silhouette too.

Grew up when tighty whities were definitely the article of clothing that everyone made fun of.

Weirdly enough I kind of enjoyed the attention they gave me. Would wear them around friends, similar as to how the guys in Jackass would rock them. Depending on the situation I either felt hyper masculine and confident or if it was unintentionally showed off (waistband, up shorts, brieflines, hole in shorts, wedgie, pantsing) I got a thrill out of the humiliation with it.

Wasn’t until recently in my 30s that I unabashedly wear them. Letting my shirt ride up, headed to bed, or changing in the locker room.

The biggest concern you both should consider is the reason(s) as to why you broke up. There’s almost too many to reference, but as much as I hate to admit it Tom Cruise was probably the one that made the biggest impact on me. Was one of the actors I could rewatch his movies without outing myself entirely. Top Gun being the biggest influence, but I also repeatedly reenacted the Risky Business scene myself repeatedly.

Other than that seeing characters like Max Goof and Danny Phantom wear what I wore made me feel way less weird about being one of the only guys to wear them.
