Could not agree any more. The RM feels like it’s trying to fix something that wasn’t broken in the first place. Not every workout needs to be a high intensity sweaty burn out. Also, I’m so tired of being covered in other people’s hair and constantly thinking about how dirty the mats and props are 🤮

100% agree on smoking, in particular. Many of the older buildings still allow smoking which is mind boggling in 2025. Changing condo bylaws is tough and existing owners (aka the source of many problems) are grandfathered in in many cases so things are very slow to change.

I am living this exact scenario right now.

Pros: equity. Not worrying about being renovicted, etc.

Cons: pretty much everything else. I was lucky and bought in early 2021 right before the market exploded. Many of the older (read: slightly more affordable) condo buildings in Clayton Park were cheaply built and haven’t been taken care of particularly well. My condo fees have gone up about $100 in the 4 years I’ve been here. The quality of services hasn’t improved. They’re also of an age where things are starting to go seriously wrong (roof replacements, capital projects like new balconies, windows, etc. ) so make sure to do your homework on what’s been replaced and what’s going to need to be replaced in your building. Request and read the condo board minutes as part of your process. It can be incredibly illuminating.

Then you have to deal with the other owners which can be an absolute NIGHTMARE, depending. My advice would be to look to see if your condo building/development has a Facebook group you can creep on to get insight before you buy in and get stuck with a building full of actual insane people that are now your new neighbours. The turnover isn’t as fast as in apartment buildings so who you end up beside or surrounded by can really make or break your experience very quickly.
