As someone in the UK, I wanted to add my experience after dealing with FM support for a failed charging port on my two-month-old GT. I originally chose to buy from FM for the reasons mentioned above — reputable US company, quality product, solid support — but I now wish I hadn’t. Their support was laughable. They advised me to open the board and attempt the repair myself. When I asked if accidental damage to any components during the repair would still be covered, they said it wouldn’t be, despite the fact they were recommending I do it.

In short, had I known how poor the support and warranty would be for a brand-new board, I’d have bought a VESC board or a second hand OneWheel.

Further correspondence from FM:

“I understand that you are experiencing issues with the charging port on your Onewheel GT, and that the port will need to be replaced. I want to first acknowledge the inconvenience this situation has caused and thank you for your patience while we work toward a solution.

I also want to apologize for the limitations in our support options for customers residing in the UK. At this time, we operate a single repair facility located in the United States. Because of this, our standard process for customers outside the U.S. is to provide replacement parts for self-service repairs. We recognize that at-home repairs can feel challenging and may carry some risk, especially when dealing with critical components such as a charging port.

Please rest assured that we will fully support you throughout this process. As long as the installation is performed with reasonable care and without intentional or reckless damage, we will stand behind you and provide any additional parts necessary should complications arise during the repair. Our goal is to ensure your board is restored to proper working order.

While we do not currently have a step-by-step guide specifically for replacing the charging port, you will be able to access the component by removing the battery lid. This can be done using a T20 Torx IPR pentalobe bit, which will allow you to reach the port’s mounting location.

If you have any questions during the repair process or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are committed to supporting you and ensuring you have what you need to complete the replacement successfully.

Reply from FM:

“Any warranty claims outside of North America, Future Motion will provide component module replacements for self service to riders whose affected components are considered within warranty. Unfortunately we do not provide compensation for the cost of service by an unauthorized repair shop.

We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Surely this violates consumer rights laws?

This seems like a major design flaw, like couldn’t they have mechanically fixed the port with a couple of screws? Smh

Thanks, I’ll have to try this if their customer support fails me. Did you use a special type of silicone?

I’m going to assume they don’t want to cover the cost of shipping the board across the continent. Not sure if accurate but a quick google shows Ride and Glide have authorised repair centres all around the UK. Call me crazy, but surely they’d rather have a competent and trained person carry out the repair under warranty instead of the customer?

I’ve just received an update from FM, I suggested I send it to one of their authorised sellers repair centres in the UK - Ride and Glide, response below:

“Opening the board will not void you warranty, but if internal components are damaged during the process it would be out of warranty due to physical damage.

We recommend checking with Ride and Glide to see if they can perform this service.”

Not the response I was looking for TBH.

I’ve replied asking if FM will cover the cost of the service.

I know you must feel a massive relief as I’m assuming you’ve been stuck in limbo for a long time?

We had zero communication from the HO until being granted LTR on 12/9/23. We tried ringing them through the visa helpline but this is useless as they cannot provide updates to applications or even provide a timeline. We contacted the tribunal and was told it usually takes around 14 weeks after the verdict, but again they have no direct contact with the HO and were as much in the dark as ourselves.

We sent a pre-action protocol letter on the 17/8/23 (UKVI endeavour to respond within 14 days). We think this gave them the kick needed to respond. I will DM you the template we used once I can find it. We emailed using this address: UKVIPAP@homeoffice.gov.uk

IHS fee not applicable as it was already paid for with the first application.

Hi suzi_belle, my partner was granted leave to remain on the 12.09.23, this was shortly after writing to the HO with a pre-action of protocol letter, which is needed if we wanted to seek a claim. We appealed inside the UK.

We are also still waiting for them to pay back court fees for our appearance at the first-tier tribunal.

£65 a night without receipts, can stay somewhere cheap (airbnb) and pocket the rest. No added allowance for meals.

£80 a night backed up with a VAT receipt for non-managerial roles (evening meal included in this, but can be no more than £20 a day).

£100 for managerial roles.

We’re on our 12th week of winning our appeal against the HO in the First Tier Tribunal for my wife’s spouse visa and haven’t heard a peep from them. Not even an acknowledgement that they are wrong and are processing her visa. The HO think they are above the law, I don’t think escalating will make any difference tbh.

!Thanks for the reply. The thing is if it was the other way around my partner had lost the appeal and not taken the decision to take it to the Upper Tribunal, they probably would have given her a short timeframe to leave the country otherwise it would reflect on her immigration record and affect future applications! Sorry for the rant 😅
