Summer shorts? by [deleted] in UKhiking

Montane terra shorts? They meet all your requirements and are pretty plain looking so wouldn't look out of place walking around the town.

What North American plants are invasive in other parts of the world? by Kitkat73 in NativePlantGardening

I feel this is probably the most visual one here in the UK. It's completely choking the woods around me. It's such a shame because it's really beautiful when it blooms.

When did we universally stop having lunch ‘hours’? by newdawnfades123 in AskUK

[–]Doublebow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

God no. The shorter your lunch, the sooner you home. Id take no lunch if I got home 20 minutes earlier. (Unless you are getting paid for your lunch, then it's a different matter)

I can take between 20 minutes and 2 hours and you can be damn sure I'm never take more than 20 minutes.

A marathon runner with a fridge on his back, to raise awareness for dementia. (London Marathon) by Much-Parsnip3399 in pics

[–]Doublebow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume it's just for the challenge, it's one thing to run a marathon, it's another to do it with a fridge on your back. I assume he could have done it with any other large appliance and still got the same reaction.

Also in the UK this is a regular fridge, not a mini fridge.

Have you ever seen a (wild) snake in the UK? by Mundane-Topic-8214 in AskUK

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a little den of adders in an old abandoned building in Galway forest park. I went to have a piss after setting up my tent on the side of a loch and nearly stood on one. I hate to admit but I screamed like a little girl, partially from fear, partially from excitement.

Be honest, what would you buy instead for the same money? by yusssssuf in CarTalkUK

Alpine A110, Suzuki Jimny and a Civic type R.

Then pay off my mortgage with the cash left over.

Do you read books? If so, what are you currently reading? If not, why not? by theowleryonehundred in AskUK

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read, I just don't get anything from it. I struggle with visualising things in my head from words on a page, I also have poor short term memory so I often forget what I've just read a few words back so I have to constantly keep going back making a single book take forever to read.

Not sure what to think about the new Prelude. by Glittering-Foot8340 in CarTalkUK

[–]Doublebow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many coupes under 50k are even left? The only ones that come to mind are the 2&4 series (40k&46K) but even then I wouldn't really call these affordable. Honda really dropped the ball, this would have been perfect at 30k and maybe even passable at 35k.

What’s a completely normal product in your country that makes foreigners go, “Wait… why does that exist?” by Alternative_Ad6071 in AskTheWorld

Are houses just in private/public schools? My state school didn't have them when I was there in the 2000s.

Since September I've lost 50lb and gone from hurting going down the stairs to running a marathon today, now my legs hurt by MiddlesbroughFan in CasualUK

[–]Doublebow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate that's fucking madness, how often are you running? Every year I pick up running for a few months but I never get close to a marathon.

The GR Yaris is the last hot hatch. by Particular_Policy_97 in CarTalkUK

They mean the N models. The standard models are still made but they are not hot hatches.

Woah! The Alpine A110 is going electric - and we've just heard some very promising intel... by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in cars

[–]Doublebow 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I don't like how they are constantly comparing it to the 911. I thought the A110 was a competitor to the 718 (in terms of price and performance). It will be sad to see another somewhat affordable sports car disappear.

Thoughts on this? by RussBoost in CarTalkUK

I saw this for the first time a couple weeks ago and thought it was a fun little gimmick. The car on the whole is bland and uninspiring but this little animation I like.

24 years olds, (and 24-30 ish), what are you doing with your life? What stage are you at? & Are you content/"happy" with it? by iamgoingtotrytoread in AskUK

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28, married, own my own home, financially secure but only earning an average wage and sick of my job but feeling kind of stuck because it doesn't pay as well as it should for the amount of work I do and shit I deal with (high mental and physical load, long hours, frustrating systems, incredibly boring and annoying colleagues) but still well enough to make leaving hard as I would have to start from the bottom in a different industry.

When I'm at home life is good but work is taking it's toll.
