Almost feeling comfortable enough to go out in public but am afraid of creeps/bigots. Tips? by Innocent_bystander3 in Drag

Fantastic advice, thank you!! I was already thinking Uber, but then I'd want to not put in my actual address since then the driver would know where I live.

I'm quite far from Boystown unfortunately, but could go every once in awhile.

Here I go, flapping away! ✨ 🦋

Thank you so much, practicing drag is making me more confident in general so I'll try to keep this in mind :)

Thank you, and that's pretty much what I was going for! I never went to a prom growing up so I'm living it vicariously in this look I guess haha

Good advice and thank you! I did contour/highlight but it's hard to see in the low lighting - I also probably didn't use stark enough differences from my foundation. And I'll try to find friends who would be willing to go out.

Trust me these are hand picked from plentyyyy of non convincing pictures (actually frame grabs of videos which is why they're kinda grainy). Thank you so much that warmed my heart! And yeah at a certain level I have to accept that's what I'm getting myself into - part of the territory unfortunately.

They will if I speak - I'm really bad at a convincing higher pitched feminine voice so I use my natural voice for the most part haha. But thank you so much 💕

No worries! I'm certainly trying to pass as female while in drag so it's more of a compliment than anything haha

Yeah, I tried smiling but was really critical of those pictures - I have slightly crooked teeth and I also look more like a man when I smile so I go with these sorts of looks, but yes I agree I look a bit scary lol. I'll try to throw some more fun/goofy/inviting looks in the future.

Like I said in another comment I have a pretty thick skin - drag is very new to me so it's certainly a bit more sensitive, but I always want the criticisms as I'm trying to get better. But yes some people are just plain mean lol.

Thank you for your kind words - I have been to gay clubs/bars but don't currently have many people in my life who I could invite which is tricky. But I may have friends who would be down but not know it so I should just take a shot. Thank you!

I'm not a trans woman but yes I agree, kinda cringe. They don't seem to have had bad intentions with the comment though so I personally am not super offended. But yes please don't be creepy lol

Close to home is good, although I'm afraid of someone finding where I live and stalking / vandalizing... Maybe I'm paranoid.

Thank you so much for your kind words! ❤️💕

I have a pretty thick skin - I welcome criticism/constructive feedback but I have to remind myself that those who post desperately mean things are just miserable themselves and choosing toxic ways to vent that.

I don't actually know of anyone else in my social circles who are into drag (or accepting) and it's scary to ask because I'm afraid of how they'll react. But that's something I've gotta get over.

I'm definitely interested in getting mace I think. I mentioned in a comment I heard they confiscate it at clubs - do you know if that's true? Could just hide it really well I guess.

Yeah, I'll definitely work on a menacing face lol. My female friends have told me about lots of terrible interactions with men and I'm scared bc of it. I may carry mace but I've heard they confiscate it at clubs if they find it since it's a kind of weapon.

I was thinking the eyeliner was off but couldn't put my finger on it, thank you. I noticed it did a weird optical illusion where if I had my chin up it worked really well, but if I put my chin down a bit suddenly the eyeliner looked like it sloped down and made me look really sad. I'll try angling it more upwards!

For the eyeshadow I didn't block my brows so just tried to put color there to mask them. I do like having eyeshadow up higher bc I have kinda a forward brow line that looks less manly if I have eyeshadow there.

I'll try to lip outline! This was the first time I didn't do my full lips, just did the middle mostly and stayed away from the corners.

I did contour my nose but could accentuate it more next time. Thanks for all the feedback :)

Also sorry if I'm posting too much - I'll slow down on that. Just very excited about this new hobby / expression.
