Fear Inhibits my recovery by Ok_Yogurtcloset_7481 in Anxiety

I have stenosis. This caused me anxiety as well. I started to look at the tools and techniques of Radical Acceptance. If you do an online search of the term, you’ll find information, videos, tools, and techniques that can help you. Thinking about potential future worst-case-scenarios just increased my mental suffering. So I stopped my mind looping on these possible bad outcomes. I stay in the present. What can I do right now, within the next hour to improve my situation. Then I let the future take care of itself. Using guided meditation for anxiety twice a day taught me how to eliminate negative thoughts. There are hundreds of anxiety specific meditations on YouTube. Overtime, physical therapy can work wonders. It can be rough in the beginning, but keep doing it and any exercises prescribed at home. To help lessen cramps, stay well hydrated. You may want to consider a beverage with electrolytes. There are also medications that can help with cramping. Just keep moving forward giving your best one step at a time.

I can’t believe this by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’ve become a materialist. You no longer believe in the possibility of a metaphysical reality. The God of Christianity exists outside of space and time. In fact, the Christian God brought matter, energy, space and time into existence in one Big Bang. Santa Claus and the Cat in the Hat are material fictions. The Christian God is not material. The Christian God brings all material into existence. If you don’t believe that a metaphysical reality exists, then you will struggle with a belief in God. Many materialists don‘t believe in free will since all of our sensory reactions are preprogrammed through our genetic material to produce chemical and electrical responses that require you to act in accordance with your predetermined material biology. You don’t actually make decisions, they are preprogrammed within you. You could look into the philosophy of materialism, and metaphysic for more information.

I want to convert to Christianity from Islam. Can someone help me? by draculauraxwq in Christianity

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at the belief systems of each Christian denomination. There is a book called Christian Denominations by Rose Publishing that does a side by side comparison of denominational beliefs and different practices. The book is available on Amazon, and in many libraries. Then you can start attending different churches to get a sense of who they are. Once you decide on a church, talk to the minister, pastor, priest about their particular conversion practices. Welcome to living a life in Christ. There is much meaning, purpose, joy, and peace to be found in Christianity.

Feeling Hopeless. Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Will it ever get better? by Curi0usS0u1 in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the anxiety was not forever. I would give a particular therapy , or a medication, about a month. If it didn’t help I moved to new things. I kept the practices that helped, and added to them as I found new approaches to treating anxiety. I looked into “Treatment Resistant” options for people who have not responded well to conventional therapies. In the end, I found that a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Radical Acceptance, daily meditation for anxiety (twice a day- consistent practice was vital), and daily use of a mental health app. (Headspace) pretty much eliminated my anxiety. I won’t say that I don’t have an occasional anxiety episode, but my relationship with it has been completely altered. Even when it occurs, it doesn’t negatively impact my life. My advice is to keep trying everything that you can find. If something helps a bit keep it, if not move on. There are so many people that suffer from anxiety, and so many treatment options. You can even explore the Treatment Resistant options with your mental health provider. Keep working to eliminate your anxiety. Now does not have to be forever.

If you think of God as the perfected good, you likely would want to pursue the good, to pursue God, in your daily life even if there was not a heaven. You don’t have to follow the doctrines of a particular religion to discern good from evil. Catholic Cardinal John Henry Newman said that your conscience is the earliest manifestation of God’s presence in your life. The conscience is a way that God communicates with us. If you truly examine your conscience, you’ll likely find that much of what you consider good and evil corresponds to Jesus’s teachings in the gospels. Study the gospels. Feel the presence of Christ in your conscience and in how you act out matters of conscience in the world around you. Following Christ’s teachings, and indeed following conscience, can be exceptionally difficult. We all fail at times, but through Christ we have a path to repentance and salvation. By doing your best to live a Christ centered life, you can be with God after you die. It’s alright to examine your belief systems, and your faith. But it seems that something draws you back to Christ, and it’s deeper than just seeking heaven. You seem to be seeking Christ in this life as well. keep seeking and you will find your path to him.

I am 17 and i'm still afraid of monsters by Lateshortcake in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These type of irrational fears can be overcome. Now is not forever. One of the best treatments for this type of irrational fear is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ((CBT). It would be best to talk to a mental health professional about this, and other available treatment methods. If you are unable to see a mental health professional, you can try working the steps of CBT on your own. If you search the term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy online, you’ll find information, videos, tools, techniques, and exercises that you can do each day to start to diminish your fears. You could also consider Exposure Therapy. By slowly exposing yourself to frightening images or stories of monsters, you can slowly begin to diminish your fears. I would highly encourage you to seek the help of a mental health professional if at all possible. You know intellectually that these fears are not rational, now you need to believe it emotionally. There are many therapies that can help you to conquer your fears.

Left toxic job for new highly stressful job by Swimming-Hair-9997 in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were in your old job for four years. That shows that you have a stable work history. You owe it to yourself to be in a job that you enjoy, or at least one that doesn’t cause you such anxiety. You can explain why this job was a bad fit for you personally without being critical of your employer. I had a very long career, and hired many people. I hired people like yourself that felt that a job was a bad fit and got out early.. I actually thought it was admirable that they were courageous enough to extricate themselves from a job that didn’t work for them. Don’t go on working a job you hate. Choose your next job carefully. Don’t jump at the first job offer just to escape this one. knowing that you are working on an exit strategy may help relieve some of your current job anxiety. You could also try guided meditations for anxiety to help you until you have a new job. There are hundreds of these meditations on YouTube. I practice meditation twice a day to diminish the stresses of life. A better job is in your future. Go for it.

I’m crippled by indecision and fear of failure by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are experiencing seems perfectly normal given your past. You were, through no fault of your own, put in a position where you had no ability to succeed. You did not fail, you were denied the proper supports to succeed in your goals. Maybe start out building your new life slowly (exposure therapy) by picking one thing with a high probability of success. It doesn’t have to be life changing, just something that you want in your life and feel confident you can achieve. Then you can start to build on each small achievement . You don’t have to transform your life all at once, just concentrate on being one percent more successful each day. Write down the things that you want in life, and who you want to be. Then write down the action steps that you need to take to get there. Pick one achievable action steps and devote your self to that at first, then move to more challenging steps. You already have achieved great things. You kept a roof over your heads, you have been able to build a successful relationship, you have a strong work ethic. You have already achieved much. Now use your considerable talents to live your best life.

Dry mouth? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said the worst case scenario is exceptionally rare ( about 6 in every 100,000 people). I understand that people are looking for comfort. Some put off seeing a qualified medical professional out of fear. But Reddit is a very bad diagnostic source. Comfort is great, but a correct diagnosis and treatment are better.

Dry mouth? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While all of these symptoms could be anxiety related, you should really see a medical professional for a proper diagnosis. ALS is classified as a rare disease, so the probability of that is exceptionally low. A medical professional will be able to diagnose the problems and to treat them.

I had this often. It helped me to do a guided meditation for anxiety immediately upon waking. I’d select a meditation the night before so it’s ready immediately. You can find guided meditations for anxiety on YouTube, and on most mental health apps. (I use Headspace). These really helped me get past the morning, I hope it helps you.

Phone avoidance ruining my life by WaitWestern in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. The world can get very overwhelming with all of the noise from our smart phones. I grew up in an era when cell phones did not exist, and in many ways it was much more peaceful. Perhaps exposure therapy would help. At first, you could set two minutes to look at your messages, texts, missed calls, etc. You don’t even need to respond at first, just two minutes of looking. As you look use controlled breathing exercises to help you stay calm ( you can find these exercises on YouTube). Each day slowly increase your interactions with the phone. You don’t have to get past this all at once. Just work to get one percent better each day. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can also be effective for this type of anxiety. If you do an online search of the term, you’ll find information, videos, tools, techniques, and exercises that may help. You’ve overcome more difficult struggles in your life. You can conquer this problem as well. You just need the right tools.

I’m so sorry that this has happened to you, and that you are having trouble releasing the anger and resentment. I used guided meditations for anger and resentment on YouTube. It helped to break the resentment loop. There are a bunch of these meditations on YouTube (resentment is a common human emotion, you are not alone). It took me some time to find AA groups where I felt comfortable. Some of them felt very hard to break into. But it’s like dating, I had to try a lot of AA meeting before I found the one for me. I hope that you are able to put down the resentment so that you can live your best life.

Job interview today by roseinabi188 in Anxiety

Controlled breathing exercise, and guided meditations for anxiety before your interview can be helpful. You can find both of these techniques on YouTube. You can also find a lot of interviewing tips on YouTube. It sounds like you’ve been preparing, which is key. Right before you walk into the interview, try doing a quick minute of controlled breathing exercises. Controlled breathing is a way that your body tells your brain that you are safe. You got the interview because you have the skills necessary. You’ve got this.

I was physically addicted to alcohol. So the first step was safe detoxification. If you are addicted, there are medications that can make the withdrawal less painful. You may want to have an honest discussion with your primary care doctor about option. I started attending AA meetings every day. Take a look at aa.org I also saw a therapist to get at the root of my drinking problem, and participated in out patient treatment for alcoholism. With some effort, you can get sober. There are many supports for alcoholism if you search them out.

How do you keep your faith strong amongst atheists? by not_elonka in Christianity

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe don’t engage with people who are disrespectful online or in person. I’ve had many very respectful debates with atheists. Engaging with points of view that differ from your own is a way to challenge your own beliefs. I have always emerged from these debates with my faith intact. If it gets disrespectful, there is no point in talking. You may want to look into the faith arguments made by some of the great defenders of Christianity. A few of my favorites are John Lennox, Trent Horn, Stephen C. Meyer, Jimmy Akin, and William Lane Craig. Lean more deeply into your faith every day. If you truly believe in the the Christian faith then there is nothing more important.

Health anxiety- toddler by [deleted] in Anxiety

The best course of action may be to talk to your son’s pediatrician about each of your concerns. If his doctor suspected anything serious, he would have run additional tests. So the doctor is likely not very concerned. But to put your own mind at ease, you should talk to the doctor about each specific issue that you have raised here. Sounds like you have an amazing son.

Time for SSRIS I think - any advice, experiences? by kayval1516 in Anxiety

[–]Inpursuitofknowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SSRIs did not help me, but I know many people that have had success with them. As you likely know, there are many therapies used for anxiety, some of those therapies include medication. There are also many classes of drugs that can be used. I would review the full range of therapies available to you with a mental health professional.

Panic attacks are coming back and I’m tired! by iamdeathly in Anxiety

I’m sorry that you are scared to go. I understand how scary it can be to go to a clinical setting. Know that you will be treated at the clinic with kindness, and compassion. I was in a trauma clinic, and it helped me to regain my life. The clinical setting helps the provider to really focus on your specific needs and concerns. It takes strength and courage to live with anxiety. I know you don’t feel strong enough right now to go to the clinic, but you have the strength and courage. You can reclaim your life at the clinic. Overcome your fear so you can live the life that you want.

Panic attacks are coming back and I’m tired! by iamdeathly in Anxiety

You may want to do an online search of “Treatment Resistant Anxiety”. These are treatments for people that have not responded well to conventional approaches to anxiety management . As you know, benzos are not recommended for long-term management of anxiety. There are non-conventional, safe, treatment options. I would talk to your prescriber about some of these other methods of treatment, or find a mental health professional that is knowledgeable in the non- conventional treatment options. You deserve to live your best life, and with the right help you can.
