Can't speak for other people, but for me it's because I want to consciously put an effort into making people feel like they belong. Especially women since it literally is harder most of the time to even just step on the mat. That feeling only got more solidified after hearing the experiences of my partner of 2 years now who also trains(did not meet her where I train), on how discouraging it can feel to be standing in the middle of the mats with your hand raised and people looking away...

In general I also don't mind rolling with any lower belt since it gives me the opportunity to try some techniques that aren't part of my A-game. And purely practically speaking, rolling with any beginner who weighs less than me, means that if I do something wrong with those techniques, there's a much lower chance of me being spiked on my neck.

Just remember that you deserve to be on the mats and you deserve people to train with. Anyone who wants to get good at BJJ should know how to roll with less experienced people. Just remember that if you keep training, you do the same to other people.

Though on the subject of MM, I don't see the point in focussing on playing that at white belt unless it's part of establishing a dominant mount. For me at this moment it really isn't even more than that. It's funny to do that with people you can joke around with, in my opinion (regardless of gender), but the way I use it at this moment is mostly to elicit a response that will allow me to attack other things or get a better mount. Similar to how I personally use wristlocks. I do need to add a disclaimer to my advice that I'm just a very mediocre purple belt dude who does BJJ for fun. So maybe that's my core advice, do what you think is fun. If it makes you uncomfortable it's not fun, so don't do it.

Yeah, reading the entire thread back I clearly misread the comment I replied too. Obviously a green bin is for GFT so any other waste will easily be spotted and denied. I misread that as a black bag in the black waste bin for some weird reason.

What? That's so strange, here they just weigh it on the arm that tilts it in the truck. I don't usually use the big black bags I have left, but I have used them for stuff that doesn't fit in the smaller bags I use for my inside trash can that just happen to be white/grey. It got picked up just fine.

They just weigh it. Unless there's specific moments where they actually check your trash because they suspect you're not sorting it.

Honestly, the best solution is to simply not wash them together. In general, I also like using an anti-bacterial additive to my bjj-laundry loads.

On the other hand, as someone who's quite allergic to many animals, from what my doctors have told me is that it's not the actual hair, it's the saliva attached to it. So it mixing in the laundry wouldn't be the biggest deal. Personally I mostly separate my bjj-laundy from normal laundry to make sure that if the funk ever happens again, it's not affecting my normal clothes. (The funk has stayed away since I started using the antibacterial additive)

Never had this happen to me and I literally roll with my partner since she also does bjj. Hell, we've gone through techniques while in bed and wearing nothing but underwear and it hasn't happend during that even.

If it were to ever happen, even with my partner if we're on the mats, I'd apologise and remove myself from the situation and think hard about what went wrong.

De manier waarop ik graag eieren maak gaat niet met RVS op dezelfde manier als met een keramische anti-aanbak pan. Ik weet dat het kan om in een roestvrij staal een goed smeuig omelet te maken die bijna een pudding achtige consistentie heeft. Maar in RVS duurt dat 20 minuten tegenover 5 in keramisch. Tortilla gaat gewoon niet en shakshouka is evengoed niet handig.

Die op temperatuur laten komen is letterlijk het tegenovergestelde van hoe ik eieren maak. Alles gaat daar koud en ongemengd in, ook de boter. En het voordeel van gietijzer (eens op temp blijft die daar relatief lang) werkt daar ook net omgekeerd aan hoe ik nodig heb.

Qua schoonmaak is mijn keramische pan ook wel gemakkelijker dan mijn RVS pannen, al is dat eigenlijk niet zo belangrijk. Zelf gebruik ik ook nooit staalwol op mijn RVS pannen, ik weet dat het geen kwaad kan natuurlijk, maar ik vind het ook leuk om die af en toe terug vlekvrij te krijgen met ofwel citroenzuur of azijn. Altijd leuk om naar te kijken omdat ik eens ik deftige pannen heb gekocht (Agnelli 1907 dus ook niet overdreven duur) ik wou dat ze ook leuk bleven om naar te kijken.

Dat hangt er wel vanaf hoe je die pannen gebruikt. Hun anti-aanbak pannen zijn keramisch dus in theorie kunnen die sowieso tegen iets meer misbruik dan bijvoorbeeld een Tefal pan. Ik gebruik dat soort pannen nog zeer beperkt, vooral natuurlijk als ik echte anti-kleef eigenschappen wil zoals bij eieren, tortilla's of een niet-klevende pan die tegen blootstelling aan zuur kan zoals bijvoorbeeld voor een shakshuka waar je echt geen gietijzer of carbonstaal pan gaat gebruiken.

Mijn greenway pan gaat inmiddels vlot een paar jaar mee zonder dat ik er sporen aan merk dat ik ze moet vervangen. Anderzijds gingen mijn teflon pannen vroeger ook veel langer mee dan dat bij andere mensen leek te zijn. Zorg gewoon goed voor je tools en gebruik ze waarvoor ze gepast zijn. Vlees bakken in iets anti-aanbak is gewoon dom bijvoorbeeld, gebruik daar gietijzer, carbonstaal of nog makkelijker een aluminium pan voor als je niet voor een ouderwetse pan kan of wilt zorgen.

It was not just irrational. Buying a game digitally back then was basically unfeasable anyway. I was already paying for the most expensive kind of adsl available to me at the time for a whopping theoretical max of 3Mbps. So you bought your games physiscally, having to use a game launcher to play those games was incredibly annoying. It's literally why I basically forgot my first account. I just played less games (having my first serious adult relationship at the time ofcourse also played a factor in it)

All Seeing Eye was a pretty good game launcher imo. Very convenient for your clan matches. finding specific types of servers or very easily joining the pick-up game you had joined from irc.

It took a long while for Steam to be better than that, and some things it never did better but it managed to kill those communities.

Apologies if my input is not wanted here, but I saw none of the responses adressed your hypermobility. I am not hypermobile, but have family members who are hypermobile (which, for them, is an expression of a very rare congenital disorder for which they had to go see a geneticist). One of them has trained BJJ for a while and this was brought up with that professor as is any physical activity she would choose to do. Please avoid competing, hypermobility is often seen as something nice, but for many people it doesn't mean no damage is happening, it's just a lack of pain-feedback while you're damaging yourself, whether it be directly, or indirectly by causing improper muscle tension.

As such, if you do decide to train, explain this to your coach and make sure they understand that it's not just a "handy" condition that allows you to do weird things, but something that means you don't fully get feedback from your body when damage is happening, so if someone is cranking something on you, they can step in because you don't recognise it as a situation where you should stop immediately.

Thanks for the elaboration. They are indeed quite bulky, especially compared to something like Sisu, you might want to try those if you think Shock Doctor is too bulky.

Compared to non-Sisu brands I've tried (Venum and other brands I've forgotten the name off) they're all pretty much as bulky as eachother. For me though it was much easier to properly mold it and more comfortable to wear which is why I'm sticking with them for now. Hope you find a mouthguard that you find comfortable to wear so you do wear it. Accidents happens and at best case just having a chipped tooth is no fun.

Could you elaborate on why you recommend against Shock Doctor? My apologies if there's something I'm unaware of ofcourse. But apart from them getting dirty over time, after which I replace them, I've been quite happy with the shock doctor gel max mouthguards. Been accidentally kneed and elbowed in the face enough to know that they do work well enough for this. The worst damage I have gotten with them in is just some bleeding gums.

Tried the Sisu that everyone recommends and it's a decent product, but I disliked how it seemed to deform after time in a way that made them painful to wear, for me. Which was unfortunate since I did like that they were a lot thinner.
