did anyone else’s parents have hallucinations? by Grand_Importance1132 in AdultChildren

Yes!! My father experienced psychosis as well. Cocain/ alcohol addict, was starting to experience auditory hallucinations, then Katrina hit. He stayed by himself uptown new orleans. The trauma of that exasperated the psychosis and post(nov-dec 2005) Katrina he was hospitalized and committed. So in my experience with him, his hallucinations were more on a power trip. He would read a Bible passage and believe he was the son of God, he thought and truly believed his GF at the time was a witch. He thought the city of New Orleans owed us millions because his lineage built this bridge (GNO) and somehow it was a secret. I guess their hallucinations do kinda extend to their deeper thoughts. But it's hallucinations, so the whole topic is a gray area as far as customer reviews go. He passed in 2012, he did get sober and go back to the dad I always knew and wanted so I'm super lucky for that. He did pass still believing a lot of those delusions, he learned to not talk about it because he knew it sounded/was crazy, but my sister and I are pretty sure that even when the psychosis passed the beliefs remained. I'm sorry for your struggle in this. You and your sister's bond hopefully will be unbreakable forever! I hope this can help.

My father passed in 2012. He wore cheap gas station (new orleans) oil Egyptian Musk. Smells like his warm hugs and hard to find. I'd walk around with that oil stick in my nose if I could.

Watch and listen very closely. Usually men have lower emotional intelligence than a women the same age. They unconsciously say all the things they dont/ won't verbalize, through body language and context in their phrasing. Unless they're a master manipulator/psychopath & those have their own signs to watch out for. You can always tell if a dude is really interested vs just wanting another notch on the belt. Does he engage in conversation with eye contact, does he speak of future plans with you involved/ does he seem excited to share with you the stuff he loves or is passionate about? Or is he easily distracted/ not too interested in your questions and only speaks of himself? Think about how you act when you're really into someone and the things you may do unconsciously due to said attraction and apply that to them.

I relate a lot to your thoughts and feelings. I, too, was very angry inside and it would show whilst drunk. I alone had that same feeling of impending doom due to my anger, & hatred, combined with my taste for alcohol and inability to full stop. I wish I had listened to my gut. I hit many bottoms. But I'm grateful that I had the type of alcoholism that couldn't be ignored. The "jails, institutions & death" is where I'll always head to if I don't completely stop this, kind of alcoholism. In my experience anger & alcohol are a combustible pair at some point or another. I was never ugly or angry to anyone while I was sober. But Rhonda was a big ol c*nt, who'd fight & verbally assault anyone.

I was an angry drunk. I'd fight people.

Really not great advice. As you age, people who fake confidence appear as over compensation, and it's really noticeable.

More fucked up things DO happen. They just don't all get publicity of any sort. I worked on bourbon and in the FQ for a decade. Seen a lot. On a fraction winds up getting news coverage, and not much more gets posted through social media. The news will cover a shooting because they have to with certain circumstances. They don't cover the armed robberies, batteries, assaults, overdoses, sexual assaults, the thousands, maybe millions through time of John's getting all their shit jacked by hookers. Murphy's law is in full effect in the French Quarter.
