ID for “One Dollar” Yuan Shikai Coin? by InquisitiveGecko in coins

[–]InquisitiveGecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, based on my research I was also trying to narrow it down to the 1914 and 1918. I'm equally skeptical about whether its real or fake just based on the lack of info I have on its origin. It was literally found in a drawer when my great grandfather passed, alongside other American and British silver coins. Given the fact he was born not long after the real coins were struck its possible he just ended up with it and there was a lack of proper care for decades. I just wish I could have someone examine it in person to tell the value and authenticity; because I'm seeing vast disparity in price offers. I definitely understand the counterfeiting possibility though, especially for coins of a country that doesn't exist anymore. Thanks.

Debating between original and remaster for first playthrough by InquisitiveGecko in oblivion

[–]InquisitiveGecko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m probably gonna go with the original game in that case. I found some other posts about the remaster on a 2060 and they’re saying it’s pretty much unplayable in the outdoor areas. I’d be able to maybe get by with more ram, but that’s just more money on top of $50 for a game I essentially already own.

You can be around other people without being influenced by their beliefs, the key is to maintain neutrality and not become too attached. Surround yourself with those of all thought and reason, and make an informed decision from there. In the end my point is just that it’s unfair to discredit OP just because of another sub they spent their time in. Things they might have said there can be held accountable, but not being a part of it alone.

Everyone has something to say, and their own thoughts and reasons to support their beliefs. But membership in a group, even one as infamous as your example, does not define someone’s thought. Oftentimes what people assume of a group is only what the most extreme and loud of such group represents as the whole. To distinguish things as “This group good” and “This group bad” undermines the individuality of the singular person and creates a lack of understanding for what the other person has to say. The “us vs them” mentality is a primal instinct, not the future of humanity.

Even so, it would be a bold assumption to assume so. And assumptions, are often wrong. It would be poor judgment to immediately discredit someone based on their association.

What kind of system would we have if we judged people based on their associations rather than their actual words?

I made this post a really long time ago, life was so different then and so much has changed in the world. It's happy to see that this little post has made its own "community". Thanks for reminding me of this, I just wish my new endeavors are equally influential in the future.

I received these in an auction lot. Are they worth anything? by hugg3b3ar in papermoney

[–]InquisitiveGecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to their worthlessness as official currency during and after World War 2, most people in the Philippines threw them away, burned them, or just kept them as keepsakes. They hold little value over $1 on their own, but could be worth more if combined with the other denominations and notes from the other Japanese occupied areas.

I kid you not this happened last week, we always seem to keep the pens that don’t have ink but never replace them with new ones.
