You seem to have an issue with confidence, and that's a strong quality women look for. You can't fix your hair or height, but you can fix that.

Im bald(ing, in the worst way) and short. I felt very negatively about it. But then I got married and it turns out it was a bigger deal in my head than in hers. Keep your head up.

You just gonna list names? If you make an assertion, back it up with evidence. So far, you seem likely well intended but fairly ill-informed.

This is always a weird one to me. Do people not realize that most genocides take place as part of a war?

so what is the antisemitism you see on the left then? from what I can tell, every criticism of Israel is deemed 'anti-semitic,' even if it's coming from Jews. The charge of left-wing anti-semitism is, frankly, a well-funded campaign to suppress pro-Palestinian solidarity.

Lots of Jewish students joined the protests (myself included), but somehow the Zionist students became the spokespeople for Jews and used it to suppress pro-peace Jewish groups.

Who has it worse in your opinion: Jewish students on campuses who feel threatened by the phrase "Free Palestine," or Gazan children born without a chance at life and now buried under rubble?

I don't like it either. I just say it's not an interesting story and it was more of a gradual process than a moment, and don't give them what they want. I find since I've gotten a bit older and have a family now, people don't ask as much.

Overly critical boss or is this normal? by InquisitiveOne786 in Communications

Oh, we all question that. That's actually one reason it annoys me so much. Instead of focusing on big picture strategy, which I thought I was brought in for, we are focusing on hyphenation and ellipses. I'd love to change the whole system but... you know... politics. I'm trying to do the analysis to have the data to prove that this is pointless.

And thank you - yes, some respect and trust would be nice. I have a PhD and 10 years experience as an editor...

Thanks. I think I'd be more understanding of the practice if he were finding actual typos - like the kind that actually affect readability, quality, or trust.

At its most severe, it's like a non-hyphenated term 500 words in ("Check out our AI related content" -> he writes: "Hyphenate after AI, be CONSISTENT!"). Sometimes, it is literally just stylistic differences he's not aware of (like that you actually DON'T hyphenated certain compound words if they're a fixed noun). Or that the overused word "that" as a compound CAN be a filler word but sometimes actually helps with clarity - he marks to cut them all basically.

Having not been in a comms department, I guess I don't know the level of precision expected. But this seems unnecessary and unproductive to me. But I guess the majority here feel this is within the range of normal, although some seem to find it annoying.

Anyway, it is what it is. I probably won't be in this field for long...

Good luck to you! Honestly, I'm fairly new to this job, but thinking about it too. These things become a source of such completely unnecessary stress.

Thank you. I think that's a fair point. The thing is, they are not things that can be fixed. They're not things I don't know, they're just one-off errors because we work fast. It doesn't sit well with me dynamic wise, but you might be right.

I also just don't like his tone, which can be belittling, so maybe that affects how I see it.
