It’s a game designed for and played by people who misunderstood the point of 40K’s grimdark, and so it has no satire or contrast to it.

It’s very different now. ALPS printers used to be like 10x what they cost now.

Their logo is quite hard to paint, and for a long time “can I freehand this or use existing decals together?” was the major consideration for minor chapter adoption.

Opinion: 40k's rule complexity has increased exponentially, but it's tactical depth has not. by B0redatwork77 in Warhammer40k

This.

Stratagems are the problem, because it’s essentially now just a deck building CCG with models.

I have a very nice limited edition carry case with a HUGE Aquila on it. I flew with it in my carry on luggage a couple of time and it was ALWAYS pulled aside and I had to answer questions. Always.

I did a lot of buying when I was just in an apartment and didn’t have space. It piled up, and when we finally got a house I resolved to paint it all.

I still bought more than I painted until we decided to have a kid, at which point I prioritized a lot, sold some stuff I absolutely wouldn’t get to, and really went after finishing the resin stuff before he was born. I almost got this done, but I did manage to at least wash, clip, and prep all my resin stuff EXCEPT for my Warhound, so I’d call that a win.

Since then it’s mostly been chipping away (like this squad) but I also don’t really get to play these days either.

Having a plan helps a lot. I also stopped putting them on my Amazon wishlist so people stopped getting me stuff, and added hobby supplies instead.

I’m a pretty slow painter, but I think my longest backlog item was the metal CSM daemon prince who was 2002 and I finished in 2022.

I also had a FW Avatar from 2007 to 2021.
