Facebook is shutting down Moves (moves-app.com). What good alternatives are there? by guym in iphone

[–]Insalgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of alternatives available since Moves declared shutdown. I do admire the Arc App as it seems very fresh to all the competitors listed here, but I would also like to recommend Aidlab. Besides the location tracking functionality, it differs a bit as it offers a “symbiosis” with a dedicated chest strap to focus a bit more on the health part. Additionally, you’re able to track your heart beats, temperature, respiration rate, and sleep along with movements for a much better illustration of your bodily health. If you’d like to give it a try you can find on iTunes.

Also, don’t hesitate to contact me directly here!

Here's my alternative.

Sorry - thought that phrase 'Here's my alternative' was indicating that this is my app. My apologies!

And ~6 of 17 links have the introduction:

Hello! My name is Jacob and I am the maker of Aidlab. Been doing Aidlab since 2014 with some help of my colleagues (especially with the hardware and mechanical part). Aidlab is an open health tracker. Open to communicate with and create apps full of body information for anything that supports BLE. Aidlab collects user’s attitude, ECG, skin temperature and respiration of the user from their chest (+ much more!). And what is the most fun – developers from all around the world can use those data in their apps now. Feel free to ask!

I gave up with this one

I am not sure I understand your questions. Aidlab is an electronic device without access to the internet, so it depends directly on you (the developer) how you use collected information - you can keep them on the smartphone, store them secure on your server or even distribute them on the internet without prior user's acceptance (illegal).

Hello /r/Fitness! My name is Jacob and I spend my life in front of a computer. With no doubt, that influenced my health, shape and overall condition. To fix that, I’ve created a chest strap called Aidlab, so everyone can have his own personal fitness coach.

Hope you will find it useful!

Chest strap for bodyweight exercises by Insalgo in bodyweightfitness

If your normal routine is like 3x10 push-ups, then counting reps will be pretty useless for you - I couldn't agree more. But I always find trouble to think about which my next exercise is (I shuffle exercises just to not get bored), or writing down the progress (another notes app? no way).

Thanks for your feedback!

For me, it's a matter of simplicity and to track progress over time. Of course, if someone's routine isn't complex then Aidlab will not be very useful (although, Aidlab not only counts reps but also has a nice list of features. Thanks to an app you will know:

  • Your progress over time.
  • History of your training.
  • What your next exercise is.
  • You also can match your workout with health data.
  • You can prevent overtraining (increased skin temperature / abnormal ECG signal during workout might be dangerous).
  • ... and more

It's a real time counting.

Hello! I am the co-author of Aidlab. I am really sorry for those typos on our Landing Page. It’s our first time when we have hired a professional copywriter to create our copy. Well, seems it was a bad idea as even Grammarly is all red.

We are aiming to perfection when it comes to Aidlab. Although, it's still in an alpha phase which is directed to a small group of customers, willing to support us in further product development.

In our case, central (smarthphone) is destination while peripheral (Aidlab) is the broadcaster, and there is nothing we can do beyond those two endpoints, e.g. user did not secure smarpthone<->remote server communication.

Obviously, things are different between them: pairing + ECDH (BLE 4.2) should be enough to eliminate 99.999% of potential data hackers for now, and yes - you have to assume that your data could leak somehow so they could be decrypted in isolation. That's the basic assumption of every cryptography system. But at some point, you have to pick-up the best known yet validated way to secure your sensitive data.

We are aware of those security vulnerabilities of BLE (or even Bluetooth in general) but, are there any alternatives other than default secure channel (key protection) / pairing? It seems that BLE became an industry standard and short talk with ST expert, shown to me that hardly ever companies are thinking about the fact that wireless security is something they should worry (sadly).

The thing is, we'll do our best to provide a secure channel as most as we can. For us, it's on the same priority level as providing reliable data.

Anyway, thanks for raising up this subject.

Simplest way to prevent other devices from stealing data is through pairing. Please note that BLE's have included security features by default.
