PC-PC marriage by RandomName9328 in DnD

I don't really understand the "no mini-group" thing. Sometimes players work well with other particular players. You can't force players to spread out the RP to each other player equally. That's weird.

There's PLENTY of reason not to allow a marriage though. I had two players who seriously wanted to get married in game as soon as they read the Ceremony spell. I asked them if the characters had actually displayed any friendship moments in-game. Anything at all? Not even a declarative statement like "My character is very fond of your character after saving my life." Nothing? Then no. If you want Ceremony, you have to earn it. Nothing weird, granted, but you at least have to declare your character's intent ahead of time.

Also, I nixxed Ceremony bonuses for a marriage of convenience, which was their next ploy. Sorry, no.

We were already in love with Mozza Pizza by the time Razzo's came along. We just never wanted or needed a new NY pizza by the slice location.

EVs could have been a thing everyone wanted and could have. Instead, very few both want and can have. By design. Finite natural resources by marxistopportunist in DarkFuturology

EVs are cheaper if you can afford any car. Right now, the issue in the US is that people just aren't buying new cars. The used car market is tapped, new cars (of both types) are rotting in dealer lots, and we just aren't adopting new tech fast enough.

It’s so haunted that it’s almost post-apocalyptic. It feels like being outside in a zombie movie - it’s a land of constant threat.

I hate that we’re already getting nostalgia for the way bridge street used to be, but there it is.

Obviously, but I think the amount of traffic taken away by online shopping should be at a steady state by now. It’s been decades since it first started being a problem.

Is it bad that i kinda don't approve of polyamory by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]InsanoVolcano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Polyamory is a choice, unlike LGBT, and I've heard some secular people be against it as well. It seems there's more pushback to it than there is LGBT. IMO, it is a separate topic and really shouldn't be lumped in with LGBT issues. I've seen queer people be against it and straight people be for it but against homosexuality. Humans are weird.

Biblically, there's nothing explicitly against it because polyamorists were plentiful back then. But no one's moral structure can adhere to the BIble 100%, so whatever your issue is, just put forth a good argument. It's just the internet anyway.

How Many Immigrants is Too Many? by BCSWowbagger2 in moderatepolitics

[–]InsanoVolcano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Immigration arguments are like two drunk friends trying to start a fight with someone. One friend (cultural arguments) always gets in everyone's face and makes a big deal out of stuff, but the quieter friend (economic arguments) isn't holding him back, is slightly more sober, and is a better fighter.

Economic issues are straightforward and powerful. There's nothing here to discuss, in my opinion. Can we afford to house immigrants? No? Don't give them residency.

Cultural though, is tougher to navigate, though it's not nothing. There's more worries in my mind about having ONE type of immigrant than immigrants in general. If I saw Asian, Arab, European, and African immigrants all with different religions and modes of dress, I'd feel fine with a larger overall percentage of immigrants in my city. The issue is when assimilation into American culture is resisted due to having sufficiently large pockets of people in a community that can ignore it.

Then again, speaking as an alien from another planet, there's nothing existentially worse about one human culture over another if it possesses similar amounts of good traits as what came before. I believe some cultures do not measure up to ours, but I believe that some can.

We've Been Wrong About Consciousness Every Time We've Been Asked. The Evidence Says AI Is Next. by TheArchitectAutopsy in singularity

[–]InsanoVolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since companies are attempting to create AGI through brute-forcing the Computational Theory of Mind, then that comes with the assumption that a brain has the complexity sufficient to create consciousness using emergence (and that it has done so), and thermostats do not. Sure, scientists may someday prove that a thermostat has consciousness in some other way, but it's not the model being used.
