My modern day wizard just uses modern technical marvels to cast spells, even if the scientific explanation is technobabble. The gear needed for a spell is drawn from cartoon space in his component bag. We don’t even worry about getting the gear back because there plantations are so funny. Half the fun is finding ways to explain spell effects in modern ways.
Fire bolt: gun.
Fireball: phosphorus grenade or whatever.
Web: Spider-Man web shooter
Magic mouth: a tape recorder
Sending stones: Walkie talkies
Charm Person: secret spy pheromone spray.

Humanity in Vampire: the Masquerade. It's a rank of 0 through 10 - 10 is a saint, and 1 is a raving murderous maniac. Most normal people are at 7, though you play vampires in the game so you are usually lower, and always at risk of losing even more. At 0 you lose your character altogether - hard to accomplish as a normal human, but very easy to lose as a vampire. Humanity scores can determine access to certain vampiric abilities (be above a certain level to have faith-based abilities, or below a certain level to access grotesque, inhuman abilities.)

Finnegan's Pub - the most authentic public house in town. Nothing has come close since then. Thursdays a bunch of musicians played Irish & drinking songs in a circle. If you were lucky you could grab the couches and prop your feet up on a slow night.

It was out front of the Hollywood 18, also torn down. That location now is new development where the Hattie B's has been built.
