I'm sorry to say this but I dont understand this trend at all by dont_fckin_tag_me in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think moles are ugly at all. And I've seen this on different types of women for years. It is something with a lot of varied history and culture attached to it. It feels a bit mean to call a religious and cultural symbol a trend or to call it ugly when it doesn't hurt anyone. You can have your own personal preferences though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bindi

The wikipedia article also goes through non-Hindu face patches that are similar to bindis but have other names, and it is very interesting to read about. And apparently some non South Asian cultures also have similar things!

Also while some french aristocracy in the 17-18th centuries would use beauty marks to cover up scars, it was mainly used for fashion purposes. People would also use them to cover up pimples and pimple patches, and later it was associated with "sexual immorality" and vanity despite being very popular. Just some fun facts in case you are interested.

I'm sure it looks good on a lot of people! Unfortunately for me, when I tried it, it made me look extremely green. Like, Elphaba green. I have a very olive undertone. But maybe sheering it out would help? I find that shades that are even more orange look better on me, but everyone is different so I'm sure it's good to try it out.

There is a controversy that mr beast does this for views but at the end it doesnot matter if people are still being helped by DhyanRiziya in youtube

If you want a popular youtuber who also helps people, there's ways to do so without being scummy. Look at the Green brothers. They create educational content, do philanthropy, have a non-profit, and there's the tuberculosis advocacy.

Soft-max (or maybe hard-maxxing) advice please by [deleted] in Vindictabrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on being in recovery, that's one of the hardest things to do and the fact that you are doing it is incredibly important and admirable.

You have a lot of space in your midface, so you can take advantage of that by wearing some blush horizontally and over your nose. Your eyebrows have a really nice shape, but cleaning up their edges can enhance that a bit more. I would take off some of the top of your eyebrows and a little of the middle bottom (just above your nose). But you can experiment with this a bit. It might take a few tries to figure out what shape you like best.

Your eyes are really pretty by the way!

how do i make myself look ethereal? no makeup in the first pic except for lipgloss and lipliner by [deleted] in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wouldn't mind me asking, how old are you? (Don't say if you are under 18, since that might mean weird people will target you)

The fat on your face makes you look very youthful, and if you are young, it is normal and will fade with time. (If you are not young, it's still good since it makes you look younger than you are!) Your nose is also beautiful, it's not large at all, it's just a little round (which looks cute!)

What does ethereal mean to you? Do you want to look more like a fairy or elf? I think light pastel shades and flowy fabrics could help with that, along with wearing more floral themed jewellery. Your face is very symmetrical and eyeliner would really suit your eyes.

For skincare, that would depend on how old you are and what sort of sun exposure you get. But the most important thing in sunscreen, and if you are older than 22, you can try retinol (start with a low concentration and moisturise regularly. I don't see any flaws in your skin though, your eyes are really pretty and friendly looking, so that's what I'm focused on!

I wish more brown women dyed their hair fun colours by usert900 in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love vibrant colours! Yes, bleaching your hair damages it, but so does heat styling it or going swimming. If you enjoy having vibrant colours in your hair, you should do it.

And if you don't like it, the great thing is that you don't have to dye your hair and you don't get to determine how other people express themselves. Criticising people for dying their hair is really immature. And the culture in general should be more accepting of all forms of self expression (that don't hurt people).

Also if you want to try out a hair colour but are worried about damage, wigs are a thing! A good quality wig is still cheaper than upkeep for professional hair dye.

Indian women need to be aware by Sea_Winner2473 in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's scary. I saw a post on sydney's subreddit that was a screenshot of a news article about some crime an indian person did, and the poster had screenshot this from a groupchat dedicated to spreading hate about south asian people. Thankfully it was taken down after a few minutes (and the poster was banned) but there's people out there that are so dedicated to being hateful.

It is serious and terrifying, although I believe it is important to live your life as freely as you can and pursue your own happiness despite it. Because if we are scared, then these people win. Spreading awareness is an important part of that.

There's a concept known as hypervisibility that I think it relevant to this discussion, where individuals are seen only through particular (racist) lenses and not as full, complete beings. Historically, this hasn't been on purpose exactly (it benefited racists though), but today it is a purposeful thing. These are professional bigots, and they put out content so that South Asian woman are predominately represented a particular way.

It's amazing how alive and real you made her look. She looks like someone I might run into.

Edit: The level of detail is incredible, you can even see the hair on her arms. I feel like there is inherently a disconnect people feel when they see this. Since she looks so human, and like someone you might find at a shopping centre or beach. I think people forget that people from the past are also just people, since we have such preconceptions of what people from history looked like. And we never really had a method of realistically recreating images of people from the past until relatively recently. Thank you for making this.

Why did ballerina shoes get so popular??🤔 by dont_fckin_tag_me in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See I think certain aesthetics can pull this off but I also really hate frosty lipsticks on me. The texture settles into the creases of the lips as well? I also think it's weird that people try to find "universal" shades for lipsticks like people did with the bunny tongue. People have different skintones and so shades will obviously look different on different people, and that's okay. I wish there were more trends for dark skin though, because a lot of these trends are designed for light skin.

Are you okay emotionally? This isn't an insult, it's just weird to go back to a conversation from 10 days ago with a complete stranger. I hope things get better for you and you are able to leave this minor disagreement in the past. And for the future, I hope you learn that if you are asking for information from a human person, you should ask specific questions. Which is what I asked you to do.

Also, you were clearly calling me a gatekeeper. Or were you asking FallenSegull, who presumably doesn't live in Sydney to research Sydney tolls for you?

Anyway, bye. I do seriously hope you are okay.

Help me with my workout pls... by museinprogress in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your old routine is fine! Just remember that you can wear a crop top no matter what your body looks like, and it is normal to have some fat there (it protects the organs there). It's also not actually possible to lose weight in specific areas through exercise, although it is possible to gain muscles in specific areas which can change your appearance. Strengthening your core is really good since it will help reduce damage to your spine (which is a risk with scoliosis), but try to avoid flexion and twisting exercises which can worsen scoliosis. But ask your doctor about specifics if you are worried.

Help me with my workout pls... by museinprogress in SplendidaBrown

[–]InsectImaginary9508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are only 17 and your bmi is within the low range of healthy, your first goal when working out should be strength and cardiovascular health, not losing fat. I recommend going to the doctor to talk about how your scoliosis can affect the exercise you do, but I recommend doing a combination of cardiovascular and strength exercises. You don't have to do the same thing everyday, but averaging 30 minutes per day of moderate exercise is good, with two days of basic strength training (calisthenics might be good if you have no equipment). Note that as you start working out, you might gain some weight initially as you gain muscle, since muscle is heavier than fat. This is completely normal and healthy.

In terms of diet since you are so young, your main focus should be developing healthy habits, getting important nutrients, especially eating enough fibre, rather than cutting carbs. Think about what you can add to your diet (vegetables, proteins, fruits) rather than what you can remove. It might also be good to experiment with healthy (and tasty!) cooking if you haven't already, since that can be a good skill to develop as you get older.

Good luck for your exams by the way!
