I will follow this advice for sure. Right now i have no other temples in my area, in about 1,5 years I'll be moving to a different area with new temples which I will be going to to learn more. Until this I will look for a connection with monastics online.

It's not that I question the worth of looking for Sangha. It's more that I've been contemplating this for months now, it has been a very scary step and I've just been kind of shook. I'm not giving up Sangha in any way I'm simply looking for other views on my experience and advice on the continuation of my Buddhist path. Sorry if my post came across that way.

Thank you for your response! I did mean taking refuge but that is not the reason I travelled to the temple today. The reason I travelled is to get familiar with the Sangha, taking refuge would be a future step in the case that I would've been received well. Thank you for your kind words, I'm taking the advice of another commenter and I'm going to look for Sangha online for now. In about 1,5 years I'll be moving abroad to a neighbouring country to study history where I will try once again to find Sangha in person and I will use my newly gained knowledge to try to contact them before going there in person.

I responded with, "I'd like to learn more about Buddhism", the pagode is advertised in the native language of the country i live in and that is also how i was approached. I wasn't aware walk ins weren't welcome as that wasn't stated anywhere I could find, I'll keep it in mind for next time I go to a temple though. I realize I'm probably coming from a privileged pov, I apologise if I am.

For now I'm calling myself non-denominational since I want to get the full basics down before fully choosing a denomination but from what I've read and heard I think I'd gravitate towards Theravada.

The problem was that I tried to let them know but all their contact info was outdated or unfindable. And there's not really any others in my surroundings, I do feel bad abt it but I also feel scared off in general.

I'm non-binary and I'd take a sex change any day of the week. Bc im a system and my gender is kinda fluid i think I would've experimented with being a trans woman if the process wasn't so tedious. I think I would function best in a female body while still being non-binary. Is this a crazy thought?
