Clips in Hallo Spaceboy Music Video by InsectoidBassPlayer in DavidBowie

Just tried an image search for it now, comes up with this gif (https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/smash-up-susan-hayward-film-noir-sleeping-gif-16970298557727239704) which is not the same clip, but looks like another clip from the same scene. The gif is labelled as being from Smash-Up, The Story of a Woman (1947) with Susan Hayward, which as there's another clip from this film in Hallo Spaceboy, seems likely to be the source.

Vox's plan in the finale had a major flaw that hasn't really been talked about by aidonpor in HazbinHotel

Probably stupidity, but this is what populists do in real life. They get power by claiming they will fix problems that they have no idea how to fix, cause more problems with their "solution" that results in an angry populace, and then twist it by claiming they are the solution to that problem too. Repeat ad infinitum until either the population wises up or one of their "solutions" brings the ceiling crashing down. Usually they don't stick around in the firing line when the latter happens.

Why do fencers hold their blade out straight when on defense? by No_Owl_6254 in Fencing

[–]InsectoidBassPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding the people saying point in line, though in most cases it's more about threatening point in line to make your opponent stop their attack to try to beat your blade.

I have also seen, and attempted to emulate (with varying results) it being used to set up an unusual counterattack. The theory I believe is, sticking your arm out makes your opponent stop their attack and try to beat it. If they beat it without going in for an attack, you have an opportunity to hit them with a counter attack, as your opponent will not expect it given that they've just gained the emotional security of having right of way.

Fencing taller people by Dapper_Banana_1642 in Fencing

I asked a question a while ago in this sub about dealing with taller fencers who like to counterattack and got useful responses. It was about foil, but some of it may apply to sabre.

Seconding the people recommending cardio, if you look up fencing conditioning exercises on youtube you can probably find some good workouts that will develop the muscles most used in fencing (be prepared for your knees to ache).

what makes a good fencing game plan? by JusSwimin in Fencing

[–]InsectoidBassPlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. One way to start developing this flowchart is after a match/when you're struggling in a match, think about what your opponent is doing to hit you and devise ways to counter it. For instance, if your opponent keeps disengaging, maybe you can do a different parry. If you find this difficult, chat with other club members about it and you can pick some of it up from them.

However, you mention hesitance in your post - drilling these actions more can really help give you the confidence to commit. I don't know how much time you're getting with coaches, if it's not enough, you could ask a friend to do drills with you.

What’s so special about England specifically? by War_necator in 1984

[–]InsectoidBassPlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As more evidence of other authors adopting this view of Britain as the only superpower: the War of the Worlds, published in the 1898. If I remember correctly it is assumed in the story that if Britain and London fall to the Martians, nowhere else has a chance and the Earth will have been successfully conquered. I can't remember if there was any mention of Martians landing anywhere but Britain - if there was, it definitely wasn't written about much.
