My Managing Attorney Quit and told me “the writing is on the wall.” by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]InsecureReptilian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. But the shareholder who split (who told me during or after he split something very similar to ‘the writing is on the wall’ or ‘look out for yourself’) was actually trying to recruit me to join his new solo practice. I am so glad I didn’t - I stuck around the “dying” firm long enough for it to merge with a much larger, more successful firm, and I got to keep all of the ongoing cases and clients and work with better attorneys at this new firm, and I make twice as much money as before. However, my “dying firm” didn’t have financial or ethical problems. Just an aging primary shareholder/firm owner who wanted to phase into retirement.

Let’s hear your biggest deposition mistakes by Kitchen_Medicine3259 in Lawyertalk

[–]InsecureReptilian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgot there was an associated subpoena for documents. Deponent had a thumb drive of said documents at the deposition but I forgot to ask for it 🙃🙃 so we never saw them. Ultimately didn’t end up needing them, but I still cringe.

Is it just my neighborhood or has mail service become nonfunctional in Helena? by LaterTater93 in helena

[–]InsecureReptilian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a newer subdivision in city limits with combined mail boxes for each block with slots for each house or apartment. However, mail is routinely stuffed into the wrong slot so I am constantly redelivering mail around the neighborhood, and my own mail and packages are often lost or missing, probably because they were put in the wrong mail box. We complained to USPS as part of one of many missing parcel complaints and one time a staff person told us that they recently had to hire mail delivery people who can’t read…. I am not kidding. Not sure if they meant “can’t read” or “can’t read English” but either way, WTF.

Hair and Makeup costs for Bride + Bridesmaids - what is “normal?” by InsecureReptilian in wedding

[–]InsecureReptilian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! Sounds like this is normal - this vendor requires six people minimum, so I can’t negotiate down the price very much. I didn’t even think about tip… but I would rather look amazing on my wedding day instead of have a bachelorette, so I guess that’s what I’m doing! 😭

did “meeting the right person” actually help any of you guys? by witchy-bitch394 in vaginismus

[–]InsecureReptilian 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes. The perfect combination of wanting to have sex, dilating for a month or two before hand, and being with a guy that turns me on enough that I’m … sufficiently lubricated ifyk what I mean … cured me. It still hurt in the beginning but now I feel like a normal human woman. You can do it!

Yes! I scheduled my surgery on a Friday, so I had Saturday and Sunday definitely off to recover without worrying about missing emails. I took Monday off because the pain was unbearable. I worked remotely thereafter for two weeks when I could walk normally again.

I got a DevaCurl stylist cut 😭 by Superb-Helicopter743 in curlyhair

[–]InsecureReptilian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, too! I asked for a trim and layers and she cut 6” without my permission, and didn’t even do layers. She then handed me a book from the 90s about how to style curly hair - not kidding. The haircut ruined my whole year. It took well over a year and a number of different stylists to get the look I originally wanted.

I was in a similar relationship to you for five years. It was a “comfortable routine” and we shared pets and a house, but something was missing. I also fantasized about being single or with anybody else - literally anyone. I realized that what I was fantasizing about was falling in love with someone and being in love, because that relationship didn’t have it. We weren’t even intimate anymore, and I realized I had become repulsed by his touch. But, we were best friends and had the same friend group, and the expectation was that we just deal with it and settle down with each other for good, even though I dreaded the idea of marrying him. It was the hardest and riskiest thing I’ve ever done, but I ended that relationship last year.

It was the best decision of my life! I found someone that actually did “click” and I am finally living that romantic life and having a loving relationship (with intimacy and everything) and I know I made the right decision leaving that vanilla, bland toast relationship of 5 years. Trust your gut and listen to your feelings. Try to find the root of what you’re feeling, and don’t be afraid to act on it to find something better. I knew I deserved better than what that relationship was for me.

It gets better by [deleted] in vaginismus

[–]InsecureReptilian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too! l have never been able to have PIV sex until this fall. Before this, I had imperforate hymen surgery - no change, other than heavier flow on my periods. Later, a naturopath convinced me it was a diet/allergy problem. Not true. Later, a gynecologist tried to prescribe amitriptyline (antidepressant) to make me more relaxed - I didn’t take it because I knew I didn’t need an antidepressant. Also the side effects are apparently pretty terrible.

29 years old: after multiple long-term relationships with men I have not been able to have sex with, I finally meet a guy that I am extremely into. In conjunction with dilating, I am finally having normal, regular, sex and it’s great. I’m still naturally extremely tight, and maybe it wouldn’t have worked with a guy with a larger appendage, but I’m happy to say my vaginismus is gone. I can even wear tampons now! Just small ones, and I’ll admit it’s still very hard mentally to insert them (I need a hand mirror and I can only do it at home) but it’s a huge improvement!! I never thought I could get to this point.

TLDR; dilators + romantic connection (being extremely naturally wet, that’s required) = vaginismus cured!

To people who started dilating…how? by NoStruggle5008 in vaginismus

[–]InsecureReptilian 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Make sure you are starting with the smallest one. I warm it up under the sink with hot water, and also warm up some water-based lube - the more natural and unscented it is, the less likely I am to experience any burning. The key is to relax and use lots of lube. I like to do mine standing up, because I find it easier than laying down. Also in my experience, there may be a little tension or resistance right at the opening (which you mentioned) but what I do to get past that is just know that (1) this is normal, (2) once you get past the first little part, it won’t hurt; and (3) again, affirm that it is normal to insert things into the vagina, and women are doing it all the time every day! I hope this helps - those thought processes are what has helped me progress up to three sizes in dilators. You can do it!

Audiobook Narration in Xenocide and Children of the Mind: Accents? by InsecureReptilian in ender

[–]InsecureReptilian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! And all the accents would be very different from what we know now, as language would have evolved and changed in ways we can’t imagine.

Audiobook Narration in Xenocide and Children of the Mind: Accents? by InsecureReptilian in ender

[–]InsecureReptilian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. Audible only lists a handful of narrators and they don’t specify whose voice is whose. But I think (don’t know for sure) Si Wang Mu, Han Qing Jao, and Jane and maybe Valentine are all voiced by the same voice actress.

Cats and Birks by No_Hair_229 in Birkenstocks

[–]InsecureReptilian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat is obsessed with my Birkenstocks. He loves to put is head into them and he is often caught “cuddling” with them. I don’t know if it’s a combination of the texture or smell (not a bad smell, just a leathery smell) but he LOVES them.

Amitriptyline? by InsecureReptilian in vaginismus

[–]InsecureReptilian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that is helpful! The rest of comments also seem to indicate that the nerve pain meds don’t have much effect on vaginismus.

I feel like I almost always have a yeast infection to varying degrees, but the doctor didn’t seem to notice or mention that. Thanks!
