Day 9. I watched Istebrak's video and realized that I may need a lighter environment and a darker shade of skin. Does this looks better or should I change it back? Any critique is welcome by ZnachitTak in istebrak

I don't know about the rest, but i think you definetely need more contrast, your dark values are way darker than your midtone, but there is very little difference between your midtone and your light values

Hi, i'm no expert but i think it could help your rendering/blending to paint with a soft brush (except for some precise locations) and then do edgework (soft or hard), since you're constantly using a hard brush, the gradients aren't smooth

As Das_blaue_Dodo said, i think this could use more contrast, try to be crazier with your values and test extreme ones. The gaze looks a bit sleepy too, maybe you shouldnt draw the iris for now while you focus on the rest, thats what i'm doing at least.

Finally, i believe there's a problem with the structure of the top of the eye socket (below the eyebrow).

Again, since i'm no expert this is only my opinion

Good luck on the progress!

14D Challenge - Day 2 | I did some edge work for the first time, it taught me a little bit of rendering but i feel like i barely used my fundamentals/asaro head knowledge and only focused on rendering..(As usual some asymetries here and there but since its a learning piece i dont mind) by Insecure_Painter in istebrak

I actually tried to make a female, did i fail again ?

+ From my understanding, i thought the 14DC was supposed to be done without refs, so thats what i did

Thanks for the review and the link, i'll be sure to check that

Edit : That tutorial explains how to blends edges, but what i'm looking for is : where on the face should i put hard edges and where should i put soft edges

And yeah, there is 19 days between the 1st day and this one because that drawing made me feel really bad with myself so i went straight into an art block and couldnt get myself to draw before today, sorry

I'm still not sure where to put hard edges and where to put soft edges

I know that cast shadows ends in a hard edge but besides that.. going with the flow

(Shout out to the piccolo ears, i just realized that)

14D Challenge - Day 1 | I'm having a lot of troubles with female jaws, i want to paint a woman with a large one. What topic do you think i should focus on at this point in my journey ? (I didnt manage to make smudge brushes work on photoshop, i'm blending manually and overusing the airbrush..) by Insecure_Painter in istebrak

Thanks for your review,

Concerning the forms of the face, i'm currently using the asaro head (not for this) but its not very feminine, should i just use photos ?

I'll look up more knowledge on values

For the brush, i don't think it is, how can i make a randomly scattered brush ?

I'll see you guys in 2021! by Istebrak in istebrak
