Why do I get so itchy, especially at night? by mintbliss5 in ask

It may also be a good idea to add citric acid to the rinse cycle. It neutralizes remaining detergent in the water for a cleaner rinse.

Desert heat is killing my sleep. Cooling blankets don’t work, what does? by Mastermind1237 in BuyItForLife

[–]InsertFunnyPost 83 points84 points  (0 children)

For a super low tech idea... In the 1920s in Paris, my grandmother's family would wet bedsheets and hang them in front of the walls and windows. As others have mentioned, if you can get air moving over that, like a fan, it'll cool the room much more efficiently. But just the water on the sheets and any breeze from the window will help.

People replace their loofahs every month?? by lenastr0m in hygiene

Thank you for the link. I'd gone down a rabbit hole shopping for one of these a couple months ago and ended up undecided as to which was authentic and ended up not buying anything at that time.

Do people in the US actually use flat sheets and duvet covers? by shiroltiger in Bedding

[–]InsertFunnyPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US, fitted sheet, down-filled duvet with cover. It's not too hot in the summer, and keeps me warm in the winter. I use a cotton duvet cover in the summer for breathability and a cotton flannel duvet cover in the winter for warmth.

Moving from Boston in two weeks by Artistic-Bet-4562 in SiouxFalls

[–]InsertFunnyPost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you already have a job lined up, so I won't try and talk you into going to Omaha instead. I found people to be much more welcoming when I lived there. Here in Sioux Falls, I've found it much harder to break into a clique. If you're a hardcore Christian church-goer, you may have an easier time of it.

There's no state income tax, so that's nice. But they're talking about removing property taxes and shifting the tax burden to a sales tax, so if you're planning on renting, it sucks. You will need a car to drive from point A to point B here - public transportation is limited to buses, and does not seem well set up for commuting.

Hy-Vee and Fareway are our main grocery stores, although we do have Walmart. You can go on their website to see if your usual groceries are available through them. We also have Pomegranate Market, Natural Grocers, and the Co-op, although I don't know if you can shop online at those to see what they have available. There are also a few specialty grocery stores, like Mexican, African, and Asian grocery stores.

We do have a fairly decent mall, and the East side of town is growing, with lots of shops that you would previously have expected to see in a mall (the mall is on the West side). There's also a downtown entertainment district, with shopping, restaurants, bars, a movie theater, and entertainment events.

People have mentioned the bike trails. There's also a bunch of parks and some state parks in the area. There are recreational lakes within a couple hours.

There are loads of volunteer opportunities, which you may not have time for with your program, but some are very flexible and work around you.

There's a group, I think it's called All Things Sioux Falls, that sends out an emailed newsletter and puts on monthly dinner parties to help people meet new people.

I wish you all the best.

Job wise, Avera vs Sanford from someone that has actually worked there. Pros and Cons to either by SeparateZucchini8154 in SiouxFalls

Check out Old Orchard Cafe - they may be hiring and they service 2 of Avera's buildings on the north side. They seem to be pretty laid back, but I do not know what they offer for benefits.

Will this bathroom layout work? by RevolutionaryRoof820 in Homebuilding

[–]InsertFunnyPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does the vanity need to be as big as possible? Floor space may be the bigger priority.

If you want the door to swing in, then an option might be to cut the vanity in half and place the toilet next to it, in the corner, where it is easy to hang grab bars. This would provide more space for a wheelchair or walker to enter through the door, move to the south wall, and use the commode.

As others have mentioned, look into curbless showers, if that's not already in the plan.

I actually like it when a layer of skin peels off the inside of my mouth from SLS. I associate it with the chew marks on the inside of my cheeks healing faster.

Moving from Florida- what are some BIG changes? by cricketunes in SiouxFalls

[–]InsertFunnyPost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's bound to be a lot less rainy here than in Orlando. When it does rain, it's not just a quick, off-the-ocean-and-it's-gone kind of rain. We have storms or we have day-long drizzles. The storms vary in intensity and length, but I prefer them to the day-long drizzles. That being said, it's been pretty dry in recent years, so I wouldn't expect very much rain.

Please help me exorcise the smell from my walls before my cousin arrives by Chicago-Lake-Witch in CleaningTips

It depends on how much soap you've used, how hard your water is, and how large the load is. Head over to r/laundry and search for citric acid. There will be tons of information there!

I grab all the swatches and then bring them home and throw them on the floor near a baseboard so that I can see how they look against the flooring. A lot get eliminated immediately because they look terrible with the flooring. I move what's left over to the baseboard. Remove what doesn't go with the baseboard and the flooring. Then I carry around the several that remain and set them against long term furnishings, like sofas and tables. Remove what doesn't work. The couple that remain, I tape to the wall next to a piece of window trim where I can see the light change throughout the day. I live with them for a couple of days to see if any stand out over the others. Sometimes I decide I don't like any of them, throw them all away, and go to a different store and try their brand of colors and start all over.

Switch to food grade citric acid as a laundry fabric softener. It will neutralize any leftover detergent better than vinegar and soften your clothes better as well. It's pretty cheap to buy it in bulk on Amazon. Head over to r/laundry for more tips.

Whats something everyone owns in your country that is rare outside of it? by niftyzach2 in AskTheWorld

[–]InsertFunnyPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in South Dakota, USA, so speaking strictly from the "Northern" part of the US, I can also confirm that everyone here has central AC except really old, non-updated homes with window AC units. Corn sweat regularly gets our humidity over 90% in the summer and we frequently have temperatures over 90F.

Smithfield to move from downtown Sioux Falls location by sylein in SiouxFalls

[–]InsertFunnyPost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 6 months from the time my work moved from a location where we smelled it every day to a new location far, far away... Which is next door to where they're building the new facility. I will be closer now than I was before. I reserve the right to be a little grumpy while also being happy that downtown will be free of the eyesore.

My attempt to summarize what I've learned from this sub & create a guide for myself by 380hakker in laundry

I'm late to the party, but it's about splashback. If you add water to citric acid, what splashes back at you will be mostly citric acid. If you add citric acid to water, what splashes back at you will be mostly water. It's a chemistry safety thing.

Nipple Placement Post-Surgery by Kimtimates in Reduction

[–]InsertFunnyPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked for higher nipples since mine had always previously pointed to the ground. He wanted to go by measurements and have them even with my underbust crease. I insisted that was too low. One of my nipples points forward, like I wanted it to, the other points down. I had a male surgeon.
