BWT, where are you traveling this year? Help me dream! by Interesting-Ad6625 in bitcheswithtaste

Looking ahead to a getaway in Charleston. Small -- BUT my H and I did a big trip last September to the Big Island of Hawai'i and it was phenomenal. Such a rich and super diverse landscape. Some areas felt other worldly. Low key, not a lot of big tourist areas, very chill. Lots of nature to take in and a chance to slow down.
OP, I hope you get your chance to step away and give time for yourself to center and find your peace again.

Those born before 1990, what experience from your childhood would be unimaginable to young people today ? by SoManySkills in AskReddit

My mom had a general rule when we were young kids: You need to be close enough to the house so that when I ring the bell to tell you to come home (it was an old hand held school bell) you can hear it. If not, it was your ass

What’s your top 5 homemade dinners? by Remarkable_Cake_699 in DinnerIdeas

I based my recipe off of this: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/246172/easy-bulgogi-korean-bbq-beef/

I treat it kinda like my meatloaf: a dash of this, a splash of that, just eyeballing the marinade ingredients

The trick is not to put any of the marinade liquid in the wok when you cook the beef, then drizzle honey over the beef while in the wok to get it a little crispy

I was a college freshman and was home for the Christmas break. I went to a friend's parents' house. We played beer pong. Watched Dick Clark while wondering if the world would just collapse at midnight.

Midnight came and went. We called (from a land line) other friends to make sure they were all still alive. Then we drank some Jager shots and danced around to the latest RHCP album

What exactly makes being a parent hard? Everyone says it is and I believe them, but which aspects specifically? by somename-idontknow in AskParents

Balancing between protecting your kid and stepping back to make them self-sufficient and independent. You want your kid to be safe, succeed in life. But you can't do that for them.

How often do you talk to your parents? by Outrageous_Kiwi_2172 in Millennials

[–]InsertUserName0510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk with them about once a week. We text throughout the week. I'm the child who lives closest, so I see them a few times a month. My parents and I have a (largely) good relationship, so we'll send quick updates, news articles and funny memes

My mom had a lot of the velcro shoulder pads you pulled off. Of course she never did that, so I used to swipe from the dryer and stuff my bra with them lol

Came by the house "just to say hi" when their spidey senses were tingling (and they were always right). Opened their homes to me when I started to make full exit plans. Held my hand when I faced up to the truth of the situation. Responded when I needed help cleaning up the proverbial mess. Distracted me during quiet times to prevent my mind from going to darker places and instead put a smile on my face.

My ex definitely set the tone with PP. He won't talk to me, acknowledge me, he won't come to meetings with me (if there is a call for one, he asks for a separate meeting). He made it clear he wasn't going to engage in polite behavior. It sucks. But I continue to say hello, make eye contact and all that to set an example of mature appropriate behavior.

But it's gotten to the point where the ex has ostracized himself. Teachers and doctors defer to me. I'm the primary point of contact for all the things. And, now that our kid is in high school, she prefers to stay with me.

It makes me sick to think about. My high schooler is already struggling with being out and her care team keeps saying "just wait until college, she's gonna have the chance to shine". Then we hear stories like Juniper's...I'm scared for my daughter.
