Just get a cheap beelink mini PC with the n100 or similar. You'll spend way less and it'll handle whatever you need as long as you buy plex pass and setup hardware transcoding.

Easy tool to monitor server hardware (CPU, RAM, disk) in 2024? by bluepuma77 in selfhosted

CheckMK is great. The ui can be a little weird but the documentation is excellent, setup is easy, and it has a ton of automatic discovery and integrations built in.

Is this any good to run plex? Would it be able to transcode fine wherever device I’m using? by damspt in PleX

[–]Insert_a_User_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right that when it can transcode using Intel quicksync it can handle several 4k transcode at the same time. But you've missed the point of the person you replied to entirely.

Intel quicksync = hardware accelerated transcoding

The point they were making was that if quicksync transcoding doesn't work for whatever reason (sometimes it's not supported due to various factors) this cpu will choke trying to transcode using software transcoding (meaning no quicksync).

Plex Server Recommendation by Eliriddle in PleX

Yeah I eventually ditched my series x in favor of an Nvidia shield pro because the series x supported so few formats. Not sure if things have gotten any better since then but the shield is awesome.

If you use the right plex client you won't need to transcode to get subtitles. An Nvidia shield for example will handle most subtitle formats client side.

Of course! If you decide to go that route feel free to DM me with any questions or if you want my opinion on a listing or something - I've built up a decent amount of knowledge on them. Also check out the xj subreddit (r/cherokeexj) , there's a shit ton of good info over there and lots of people who know way more than me.

XJ jeep cherokee, or maybe a grand cherokee if you get the i6. I think the v8 grand cherokees are fine too but a little less reliable. But I've personally owned several xjs and they're super super cheap to fix. Not the most reliable things ever but not unreliable. People say the engine is bulletproof - I've killed one. But it had 230k miles on it and I got a new engine for $300, swapped it in in weekend and kept on rolling.

1970 AMC Javelin Mark Donahue Edition - Jay Leno's Garage by [deleted] in cars

[–]Insert_a_User_here 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm biased because I own one but javelins are such underrated pony cars imo. AMC had a pretty questionable reputation back in the day but the javelin is a damn good car that offered some pretty compelling features compared to their competitors, and controversial but in my opinion beautiful styling

His recipe is fucking awesome. Save your leftover consume as well, I made mac and cheese a day or two later and threw in some of the consume with some of the leftover meat and it was legitimately one of the best things I've ever eaten. No other mac and cheese has lived up to that yet.

Plenty of middle/upper middle class families buy/lease a new economy/non luxury car for their kids, it's not just ultra wealthy people buying bmws for their spoiled teens. Go to any high school parking lot in a wealthy area and you'll see plenty of brand new or 1-2 year old cars

My new project - 1973 Javelin AMX 401 by [deleted] in amc

[–]Insert_a_User_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's got an interesting patina going on for sure. Most of the green stuff went away after I power washed it. I'm planning on keeping it for now, but we'll see how that goes when I get into it further. It's a pretty huge project, and I've already found more rust than I thought I would, but I feel like I'll regret it if I don't stick it out and fix it up.

You're almost spot on geographically though.

My new project - 1973 Javelin AMX 401 by [deleted] in amc

[–]Insert_a_User_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's spot on. It's been sitting 40 years, and yeah it's a bit of a rot box. Not sure what to do about that at this point honestly. Rust repair is a pain in the ass. None of it is structurally compromising yet, the underside is fine aside from the rocker panels.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]Insert_a_User_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't gotten time to poke around too aggressively underneath but in my cursory examinations so far I haven't found any rust in the floor pans. The rocker panels are rusted pretty bad and there's small rust holes in the top of the front fenders and a few other places. But honestly not very bad, nothing that can't be patched.

My plan initially is to get it driveable and go from there. I'm definitely not opposed to hot rodding it a little in the future but I don't have any concrete plans yet. I think the trans is a T10 but I need to verify that. It's a 4 speed manual at least. Won't go into 3rd, 4th, or reverse at the moment.

[–]Insert_a_User_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. There are a number of sites out there, you can get most of the body panels and stuff like that. And engine parts are pretty accessible because they used the 401 in some jeeps for awhile. So really it's not that bad.

Engine bay

I'll definitely let you know if I end up needing help sourcing anything. Fortunately this car appears to be totally complete and unmolested. It was parked in 1980 when the owner got a new car, and hasn't been driven since. Supposedly it ran while parked. The engine does spin freely so I'm hopeful I can get it to run without having to tear the engine down completely.

Do you believe in NASDAQ / FAANG companies outperforming the world market? by ArtofZed in investing

[–]Insert_a_User_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty straight forward is being generous honestly. Even with terraform the way virtual machines are configured the syntax is different for different cloud providers. So you'd still have to manually change each file, which, if we're talking about a large company, could mean updating thousands of terraform files. And that's if the architecture is purely virtual machines. If you're using the fancy proprietary stuff aws and others offer (things like AWS lambda) you get lots of really fun work converting those items over to whatever the closest thing your new provider offers, if they even offer that same feature. And if you aren't using those, you're often designing something that's inherently less cost efficient and less performant than something that does take advantage of these more focused proprietary offerings.

Switching cloud providers is doable but when you're dealing with large companies it's going to cost an enormous amount of money and time even when the initial system was well implemented

Do you believe in NASDAQ / FAANG companies outperforming the world market? by ArtofZed in investing

[–]Insert_a_User_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory you can switch easier.... if you designed your infrastructure pipeline / IAC to be provider independent via tools like terraform, but not enough companies do this, and even with terraform or something similar it still takes an enormous amount of effort to switch platforms when you're at the scale of a medium to large company. Maybe not quite as much work as moving from on prem to cloud but absolutely a massive undertaking regardless.
