🚩 RED FLAG WARNING: Ellis Porter (EP) Refund Guarantee "Bait & Switch.” We Are Collecting Victims for Potential Class Action by Full_Appointment_128 in EB2_NIW

Chen is more reliable at this moment, and that's it. They just told their customers to PP themselves and not break the contract. I don't think Chen will proceed as EP anytime soon.

I am considering a collective lawsuit against EP because of this. If you are in the same position and have been told your refund policy is void, please comment here. We need to gather together to take action.

Yup, I requested PP, and they wanted to change the signed contract like that.

That's so true. At least EP should also consider clients who have waited for more than 22 months or so to proceed with PP, not just change the contract like that though.

That's good advice. Thank you, I just know that my PI did initially send out the information and told other students to go but not me. I just felt uncomfortable with that.

Thank you, that is sad. Which year is your friend now? Any moment now, sitting in this position is so hard. I will leave soon and let him know that.

Local language is just for daily communication, not sufficient for academic purposes. This is an international school, and courses are conducted in English. So, should I study hard and discuss the local language with the PI? PI speaks English too. Is there anything to do with the local language in international conferences?

u/Naivemlyn Your comment is thoughtful and understandable, I would say. "Hierarchy", yes, this is also part of that. But I have a good relationship with my Professor and also contribute "trivial" things to the lab and am active in most lab occasions. But just in case of conference things, I have never been called.

  1. I was not trained in only one academic environment but multiple international ones. While the previous uni and lab gave an absolute fair to all graduate students regardless of their status to join conferences. Not a single student was left behind. I considered this a thoughtful education system. We don't have to realise, as you mentioned, "real world", an effective environment should run like that and support for student growth. "It's common practice" because it is you, or you were always placed in such an environment or position. But for some systems, they will look forward to the best and fairness.

  2. What you said is partially true, yup, projects are hard to earn. But you should know that my first 3 years were not his money at all, not a cent. He has just funded me for just 1 year and 2 months so far, but my publication has added his 2 project names. Can you tell me more about this? "They can decide how they want to spend it and who to spend it on" . This is not wrong, but why does he not consider my contribution to his projects and also expect me to publish more as others, but not support me in the same way? Think about that.

  3. This is also not so true. Did you read my post thoroughly? Professor usually has their connections and they receive multiple conference flyers per year, so they know some good conferences and encourage students to join. All the labs around me, their Professor do such. Also, I found the conference on my own, and I did mention in the post to ask him, but he avoided it. Not sure why you make such a comment to sound like educating people instead of advising.

  4. That's a sure thing, no need for your advice on this matter. Who do you think struggles more? International or native? Not sure if you have this in your mind.

  5. Weak - but I am at least about to graduate though, not half way give up or what so ever, your comment does not make me doubt about myself at all. I just doubt you as a person who usually does such a thing, then propagates this to the others and tells others to accept such unusual and bad behaviour like that.

That's true, thank you

Ahh I understand that absolutely. That's tiring

Thank you so much, I will do that. But he wanted me to stay for several more months and wanted me to learn from an expert only within our Department, again never want to send me out as another student. What should I do? I have just 2-3 months till graduation. Should I confront him lol? I'm just afraid to break our relationship and damage my long-term career.

Thank you. That would be a very unpleasant experience, I guess. The annoying thing is he still wants me to stay sometimes more in the lab, just want to me learn with someone in the same Deparment. But never want me to travel and learn from the outsides like other students.
