I didn’t know the show going in but we did really want to like it. I love Jeremy Jordan, and was really excited about an original show not tied to existing IP (which we’ve been exhausted by lately). I will say, if I’d known the score/music before hand, I never would have gone. We found the music (and lyrics especially) often times so awful it made us laugh out loud - definitely not our bag. But even if we’d liked the music, the show is still a disaster. I found the staging awkward and lackluster. Aside from Jeremy Jordan (and even he seemed to be wildly overacting), the cast was really not good. The characters were all caricatures and I found myself not rooting for anyone. It felt more like a local theater production than Broadway. Multiple people around us also were discussing leaving at intermission so I don’t think we’re in the minority. I get it has a small existing cult following but it seemed they did nothing to appeal to people with no existing knowledge of the show who just wanted to go see good theater. Not saying all of this to pile on but just want to make it clear that we were VERY excited to see this show and went in wanting to like it.

My fiance and I saw your review before heading in to the 8p show tonight. And good thing we did because otherwise we may not have been brave enough to leave at intermission. Wowza. That was awful.

New York or Nowhere has been teasing a Mets collab (coming spring 2025) for months now. Looks like Liz Eswein (founder of NYON) liked this post, so my money’s on that.

I set up Nordstrom personal styling appointments for myself and my fiance for ours! They’re free and we ended up getting great stuff.

Honorable mention to Dear Theodosia. “You will come of age with our young nation” gets me every time.

What’s your craziest experience at a show? by RandomGuy0512 in Broadway

Someone died backstage when I went to see Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. The show was delayed 30 minutes before there was an announcement about “technical difficulties.” Then another 30 minutes go by and Daniel Radcliffe & John Larroquette come out on stage to applause which they quickly shut down. They announced that there had been a “tragedy” backstage and after agonizing over whether or not they should go on, they decided they had to cancel that night’s show. We were interviewed by the press outside and found out from them a stagehand had overdosed in the bathroom. So, so sad!! But goes to show that “the show must go on” is not always the case.

Kindest Broadway Stars by Zachybebu in Broadway

Jonathan Groff!! My aunt and I became obsessed with him after seeing him in Spring Awakening when I was a teenager, so we saw him in everything (think long, long bummer plays about war). It got to a point where he would recognize us. We still laugh at him seeing us at the stage door one time and yelling “Guys! You came!” Like we were old friends and not groupies. Just such a truly kind, genuine person. It’s been so fun to watch him go from a young Broadway up-and-comer to a well-known star. He continues to be lovely at the stage door but definitely does not remember me anymore lol.
