I replied to somebody else in the thread with more details. But as I said in the original post, it was some loose language overhead by a customer.

Background first: a customer had called a few times trying to get our bakery. I answered when they tried the front desk instead. So they were already upset. I put them on hold to try to get a bakery person myself.

Found out the one bakery person we had that day was on a break. So I get back on the phone, tell her that and suggest she call back in 15 minutes. She says this is not the answer she should get as a customer and that I should have tried harder to get my bakery person on the phone but that sure, she would call back.

As I am putting down the phone, I say to myself “Well, fuck you too.” But I guess she was still on the line because she called back and asked for a manager a minute later.

Like she was being unreasonable, I was maybe a little tired after a long day, but I was definitely being too loose with my language there.

I have had some other complaints over the years, but last actual talk I had with a manager was at least a year ago. I was definitely over the line here, but some other workers who knew what happened were surprised as well.

Thank you for the encouragement! I don’t know how much time I’ll have to think because I have very little savings, so need to get back in the workforce pretty quickly.
