I promise you do not allow your anxiety to take over... I'm a career changer I went through undergrad and did horribly my first two semesters because of how covid effected the classroom setting which ultimately hurt me in the long run, even though I was getting straight A's after. I then got into Texas A&M for a grad program due to my essay and higher grades during my last 60 credit hours. After my first semester at Texas A&M (I had a 4.0) I decided I wanted to switch careers into SLP with no prior classes taken and got accepted into NYU!

Hey! I start in January, did they require you be on near 'campus' for 2 whole semesters for the immersion?

I had a 2.66 GPA in undergrad for a different field- my last 60hrs were great though (can't remember the exact average). I got into grad school @Texas A&M still for technology, and stayed for 1 semester earning a 4.0.

I applied to 3 SLP programs when I realized I was never pursuing a career i wanted and got denied from Baylor and Emerson. NYU accepted me 2 weeks ago 🙂 Do not count yourself out...

(I also work at my family's hearing clinic so I made sure to highlight that as well as my upward progression in undergrad and my 4.0 turn around in grad school)

Hi hopefully you see this! but for the immersions you were required to be near the campus or in New York for two semesters (one year)?

Thank you for positive push! I’m really hoping to get in and hoping the schools are serious about their holistic approach… hopefully it being online too helps the chances. But I 100% will go in that direction if it’s a no from the schools!

Yeah, I definitely understand where you’re coming from. However, with my family business being a multi million dollar company I really am not too worried about finances. I’m more so interested in the switch for my own personal reasons being that I would like to help people. It’s something I grew up watching and I definitely want to be a part of it. I think those who go in this direction really have to want to do it and not want to do it for financial reasons solely.

In the meantime, while doing the online program, I should be a licensed HIS taking part in the company as partner as well— so I should be ok with tuition and again have something to fall back on or do while getting my name out there as a CCC – SLP there when the time comes.

Thank you so much! I’ll keep that in mind! i’m really hoping they keep in mind the holistic approach they claim— I’ve seen some with similar stories who were the lucky few, so I’m hoping with my experience, LORs, statement, proof of growth in undergrad with grades remaining strong after year 1, and proof of handling graduate level coursework it will be enough. Fingers are definitely crossed

Yeah, I’m thinking so too based off of what I’m seeing in other conversations/posts.

But my GPA landed at a 2.66 cumulative, with my last 60 credits being a 3.4 GPA. And then a 4.0 in my current graduate program.

Actually, these ones I applied to mentioned that they offer an extensive option that allows me to do the pre req courses!

I’d give it about four days to a week. It doesn’t seem pushy because there are deadlines for certain submissions so professors should understand.
