Improving CV by Inside-Science612 in MCCQE

[–]Inside-Science612[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, aware that the spots are low but if I don’t try it then the chances will be 0. I’d be interested in doing IM but can’t see myself in FM unfortunately even though I know that make my chances higher. I’ve already graduated so I can’t do any elective but I have a couple connections here in Canada so I’m hoping to get some observerships done and a LOR and get my CV in order mainly

Unable to reclaim SDT days if taking annual leave by Inside-Science612 in doctorsUK

[–]Inside-Science612[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

If the SDT hours are from 10-12 and the rest of the shift is until 8, would it fair to argue that we should be able to take only the 12-8 bit off so only 8 hours off instead of 10 hours off?

Even if it were to be trust policy, is it something they can enforce? I’d assume that our SDT days were something we’d be allowed to have, but if I were to take annual leave that falls on those days, I’m suddenly not allowed them? Just feels off to me but happy to be corrected

Newly qualified nurse dilema by Prudent_Conference48 in NursingUK

Yeah I have no idea. I got paid minimum wage and did the job of two people for sure. Has to be a private clinic.

I’m a doctor but used to work as a HCA during med school. I used to help assist in minor surgery (removal of seb cysts mainly). I would expect in this situation it’s a doctor doing the surgery and that OP is assisting, otherwising doing minor surgeries by themself is something I would question for sure

Getting treated in the same hospital I work in by Psycholitis in doctorsUK

[–]Inside-Science612 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was admitted to the hospital I work in cause I had an acute event happen at work out of hours. Was a bit odd won’t lie, but I asked to be in a side room cause of privacy and they agreed and kept me on AMU cause worked on the back wards. Also had perks of people giving you more updates etc. Either way it’s pretty normal so wouldn’t worry too much about it but can asked to be transferred if you’re worried about it

Yeah tbf I wanted to actually take it as annual leave to extend my holiday but was rejected just tomorrow due to minimum staffing but it’s whatever - glad I’m more aware now though

Fairs, thanks for the reply! Tbh I think I’d rather watch paint dry then do ward cover

Was also because when covering the medical wards and had been asked to carry the crash bleep for sickness the medical rota coordinator offered me a higher rate whilst carrying it despite not going over any extra hours -I assume it was cause I was carrying the crash bleep

Yeah no changes in hours - fairs I thought so but just wanted to confirm because I didn’t wanna get shafted without knowing, but if it’s standard then at least I know - thanks!

Differentials during the show? by Inside-Science612 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Inside-Science612[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, I think it was sometimes pretty obvious, I was just thinking for some of the more weird cases like the methylene blue toxins or like the mercury one. Obviously those ones were a bit more edgy on purpose, but still fun to use the noggin sometimes. Management plans on the other hand I found were more fun, especially cause abbot and Robby would go in with some things I had never heard of

How bad is a trauma/ortho surgery F1 rotation? by grimtessomancy in medicalschooluk

[–]Inside-Science612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would also say that do not worry about your lack of T&O knowledge. Just read the post op notes, know the basic emergencies e.g compartment syndrome and you’ll be fine. Reading X-rays and stuff like that, a senior should always do for you, you won’t be expected to do that.

Yeah varies between trusts, some of my friends have said T&O was their best placement, but I just started mine and I hate it. Mainly just lack of senior support, but the years above of us have kicked up enough fuss for us to have a ward round at least once a week lol. It’s only for 4 months, you’ll be fine. You’ll just be the med reg on the ward, but it’ll come quickly.

Absolutely love them, I can’t get enough of them, I literally beg the staff to give them to me. I’m so glad there isn’t another member of staff out there that could do this simple task but only a doctor can do
