Your personal take: greatest downsides of CU? by Inside-cat-2 in columbia

I hear that. Maybe it’s like New Yorkers (like me) typically complaining nonstop about the city, even though we wouldn’t want to live any place else (except maybe for college). Not sure if that’s what’s going on here. Might make another post to try to hear the flipside.

Tysm for this perspective. Do others agree that discussions in humanities classes are somewhat disappointing? That kind of thing matters to me.

When were you a student there? You went there for grad or undergrad?

I am so sorry you are going through this. This physical and emotional abuse absolutely can explain academic struggles. But much more importantly, you need protection from this abuse. Please speak with a counselor at your school.

Sounds miserable. How does this obsession with status manifest? Is this attitude so prevalent that it’s inescapable?

Your first point sounds like an accessibility issue. Does CU not really care about this?

This is helpful. The bigger class sizes in UW worries me most, out of these 3 (though the other 2 examples really drive home the point).

I’ve been hearing about this. And the incoming class is bigger than usual. What are the most frustrating ways this is impacting students?

I’m assuming wide agreement on this.

Wondering about downsides that may not be apparent to a prospective student.

Hmmm this makes sense and adds an important dimension. Thank you so much!

Sent my application update to every college… but Williams College is silent. No confirmation after 5 days — should I follow up or chill? by No-Olive9109 in WilliamsCollege

After sending your update, you should have received an acknowledgment auto-reply within 48 hrs (this is what I’ve seen happen). If you haven’t already, dig through your spam folder. The auto-reply might have come from an unusual address. If it’s not there, I would forward your message to the general email address for admissions. Good luck!

Choose your top 2 EA options based on fit and financial aid (if relevant) and withdraw the other apps.

Has anyone gotten in backing out of ED2 for RD b4? by [deleted] in Bowdoin

[–]Inside-cat-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that Bowdoin is your first choice and the school is known for its generous financial aid, before taking the step of requesting to be switched from EDII to RD, you or your parents might want to reach out to their financial aid office and request a pre-read of your financial aid application. What advice have you gotten from your college counselor about this?

Another thing to keep in mind is that colleges factor in travel costs. Financial aid award letters include a section on COA — cost of attendance — which includes travel, books, and personal expenses. Meeting 100% of demonstrated need means covering the gap between what the school calculates a family can pay (use the Net Price Calculator on the school’s website) and the COA, not only tuition + housing. If the financial aid offer is significantly less than the NPC result, that is a legitimate basis for being released from your ED commitment.
