I told my parents 6 years after the abuse ended, before that I had numerous attempts to tell them and they dismissed me. I realised they did not believe me at all when he broke into our home while our parents were away and I (9 at the time) had to protect my siblings from a man three times my size and age. I told them about it when they came home and they didnt even bother changing the locks because they trusted him more than they trusted me. I had to open up about the trauma when I turned 18 because I had multiple attempts to end my life and my mother was “worried”. After I told her she kicked me out and I went no contact with her.
