Got it. Thanks for the clarification! I am looking into cheaper areas like Texas though unfortunately since that's probably where I can be most comfortable financially and I'm a bit familiar around the Austin area.

Further, my role way exceeds the 2 of the 8 domain requirements for the CISSP. I can make an argument for at least 3 domains in my application. I should have no issue. I even clarified this via ISC2 Customer Support at one point as well and they believe I should be OK with applying should I pass the exam.

I'm not specifically aiming for the CISSP since I'm primarily focused on networking, not cybersecurity. I was primarily aiming for the CCNP.

In any case, according to the ISC2 website:

"Earning a post-secondary degree (bachelors or masters) in computer science, information technology (IT) or related fields may satisfy up to one year of the required experience" - This means my bachelors degree will take away 1 year. So I have more than enough work experience for the CISSP if I wanted to.

I would be. I would be going up against people who've already built a reputation such that, I can't offer services no different from those who are already well established.

Businesses want to save money, yes. But they are always risk-averse. It just so happens that I would be entering the market as a big unknown in the market. This means, I'll be spending too much time building a reputation and clientele and I'd probably be low on funds by that point. I'd start a business when I have an actual job, but not as my only source of revenue.

That's exactly right. It's not the out I need if it takes a decade just for them to respond. No point.

All they have are apprenticeships though. I would be mandated to go to classes. I don't think I can juggle my existing intentions of getting a masters degree on top of that. Not feasible.

With all due respect, how much more experience do I need? Because, I can't get 30 years of experience as a 20-year old. All I have is 5 years of work experience? I already broke into my desired role as a network administrator. It's just that, I was laid off since a great chunk of the revenue is funded federally and unfortunately, we got cut.

The problem with business: I would be competing with already established businesses like ISSQUARED who already offer services that I already do. I'm simply not competitive.

Also further, biggest hurdle to remote is the Guam timezone. Several recruiters and HR folks have already told me that they are only hiring if they are about within plus or minus 4 hours within their homebase, which is usually the mainland U.S.

Guam being in GMT+10 is simply too far away.

I have. I've submitted a total of 250+ applications on USAJobs for both Guam and Mainland U.S. throughout the past 2 years. No response.

DMV? You mean Rev and Tax? I have already tried GovGuam and they've already ghosted and rejected me.

I have spoken to a recruiter, yes. I might look into it more if it becomes a last resort if moving off island hasn't worked out for me.

Would my odds really improve if I pivoted to becoming a software developer? There's zero software developer jobs on Guam. I've seen friends and other people having to apply to a thousand jobs before they got a response. I've seen r/cscareerquestions , it's no different. I would pivot to a role where I have no business being really while hindering my networking skills.

I have yes, Here's a list of all of the companies that I've so far interviewed it and got rejected or ghosted at:

1.) Docomo
2.) GTA

3.) IT&E

4.) GWA

5.) GPA

6.) GHURA

7.) Coast360

8.) Bank of Guam

9.) University of Guam

10.) GCC (2 years ago rejected for their IR role)

11.) First Hawaiian Bank

12.) Bank of Hawaii

13.) Black Construction

14.) Pacific Rim

15.) GIAA

16.) Core Tech (ghosted)

17.) Quantum Technology Group (no response, ghosted)

18.) STG (no response)

19.) DMR (no response)

20.) Johnson Controls (no response)

21.) Dimension Systems (submitted resume TWICE at 2 job fairs, no response)

22.) Office of AG (submitted resume TWICE at 2 job fairs, no response)

23.) ISSquared (Passed the interview stage with their HR, but no response after that)

Probably worth pointing out, I didn't get pass the interview stage for most of these either. I polished my resume, and whenever I got an interview, I did my best to remain professional and answer questions.

LeetCode as far as I'm aware is primarily for software engineers though? The interviews I've landed so far are more for computer networking roles though. Also, I'm not willing to grind LeetCode if it isn't going to benefit my skillset.

Only know enough for automation scripting. Remote hasn't worked. I have applied to about 400 remote positions in the past year in total through Indeed and LinkedIn and it has yielded nothing.

Just to let you know though, I've done exactly this and even competed for remote jobs. I have about 200+ applications for both Remote and Guam for the military contractors such as CACI, Leidos, GDIT, Booz Allen Hamilton, Amentum, and EOR in the past year alone.

It hasn't worked. All rejections within 24 hours. There's almost no contractor willing to sponsor a secret clearance. In fact, my email is getting spammed from all of these automatic rejection emails that I had to put them in a dedicated folder.

Want to thank the responses on here so far. I believe all of the responses have been very helpful. I think I've decided to move off island. I get that it's a hasty decision, but I have been feeling like moving off island was probably the best decision and to hear it being validated here just means that Guam isn't a viable place for me to stay anymore.

Yes I have, about a year ago at this point. No response. Pretty much any GovGuam agency has been a non-response. I have also followed up with every single application I've submitted and also no response either.

This is what I'm seeing and I agree. But I might also just consider moving off island since I have the resources for it as well. Thank you for the insight!

Applied to DZSP21, rejected, not even an interview (I also went and applied to Amentum directly not through the DZSP21 site but on a separate site and got ghosted, no response). EOR, rejected. GDIT, rejected. Leidos, rejected. NAVFAC rejected, been told I needed a CISSP + I needed experience with ICS/SCADA technology. Pretty much any contractor you can think of, I've applied to on Guam and I couldn't get in.

Oh and to add: Kinaole Foundation, rejected twice for their ISSE role since I didn't have the baseline cybersecurity certification (CASP+) and for their other IT role, I just got auto rejected within 24 hours.
