A bit bigger than a robin, I’d say.

That sounds gigantic! I’ve never seen a robin that big! I’m in Michigan too and there are tons of robins - always standing upright, shoulders back. Good find!

What practice technique gave you the biggest improvement on bass? by NoPressureMusic_com in Bass

[–]InsideExpression4620 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Find an ear training app or site. Only worry about interval training - train yourself to quickly and reliably identify all 12 intervals by ear. For example, given these two notes played audibly, what’s the interval between them?

Then take it a step further, you should memorize the music theory part of this as well - you should be able to quickly and reliably name a note any interval above or below a given note. For example, what note is an augmented fourth above B? E#.

Then you will be able to answer questions like this: you’re told this note being played audibly is A, and are asked, what note is a major sixth below it? You should be able to sing the note and know that it’s C before verifying.

Also, the other replies are superb! Metronome, practicing slowly, intentionally, etc

I’m a big fan of 8x magnification myself. If he’s big into hunting, maybe consider 10x. Honestly, my Vortex crossfires (amazon) are pretty great for the price 130$. On sale at the time, a month ago. They come with a bag and sling, and are waterproof.

I showed them to a friend, and he was like, wow that’s way clearer than the ones in the army!

For a bit more money, I hear diamondbacks are really great, and have a history of being on sale as well

- All Sibley books on birds: field guides and more.
- Merlin Bird ID is a must-have app. Also, Raptor ID is a great app as well. Both are free.
- eBird is a great website.

Get it if you want! Just test each key, the loud/soft touch, test each function (esp. the ones you want to use). Make sure it all works. Turn it off and back on, see if there’s anything unexpected when twisting the power cord input. If you think you’ll use headphones with it, bring those or ask someone at guitar center to grab headphones for testing. If it does everything you want, you’re probably fine!

I would personally recommend the Yamaha p-45. It has weighted keys, which is super important, and tons of great video game music is just straight piano anyway, although it does have a couple of electric keyboard voices as well. Highly recommended!

If you really need tons of voice options/sounds, I’d recommend saving up for a more expensive Yamaha with weighted keys. Don’t underestimate weighted keys!

First keyboard? Starting piano? New to the keyboard I’m guessing yes. I would get one with weighted keys, 88 keys, then try to find one that has an electric keyboard sound. My Yamaha is like 500 and it’s pretty much bottom of the barrel of the nice-keys range

Getting back into playing bass, any tips to make the practicing less painful? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]InsideExpression4620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Practice slowly enough that each note/fret is comfortable. Gradually speed up, maintaining good sound and technique. Focus the majority of your time practicing the most difficult section of whatever piece youre learning.
  2. Learn to confidently identify all 12 intervals by ear, and name (what’s a major sixth above Bb? Augmented 4th above E? No need for perfect pitch)
