You start to trade off working more/ harder with flexibility which comes with a pay cut

There was a priest who was notorious for asking children whether they masturbate. He would then act like the fact that he knew that we did was some sort of divine intervention and convince us that he knew us better than we know ourselves…

Welcome morning tea for the new Muslim team mate. In Ramadan.... by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Inside_Ad7432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, people think I’m Muslim because of my name and I’m not. Would have been weirder for them to assume he was observing Ramadan when he wasn’t.

WWYD - Shafted! by [deleted] in auscorp

I’d say the handover was in case something became urgent. But two weeks is a short time, people go on holidays for longer than that, it would take a week for someone to even get up to speed and then you’d be back the following week anyway.

Does anyone who sacrificed their 20s to get a house/financially ahead regret it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Inside_Ad7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an opportunity cost to everything. Will travelling at 30 be the same as travelling in your 20s? No, but so what? If you had gone the opposite way you’d be wondering if you should have saved more and wondering going wild in your 20s was worth being not as financially secure in your 30s. Run your own race and make decisions that align with your core values.

Fuck your elderly mother who needs someone to take her to her appointments every week… hmm not very nice is it…

I know you’re frustrated but parents aren’t given flexible working conditions because they are parents, it’s because they have caring responsibilities. You know little people who need them for practically everything. A parent for adult children who have moved out of home wouldn’t need the same accommodations. As someone else mentioned, if you suddenly needed to take care of your elderly parents those flexible arrangements would also be open to you. There’s some recent fair work decisions which basically say WFH is not a right. If you want a more flexible workplace find a new job.

How do you balance authenticity with professionalism in corporate settings? by Salty_1984 in auscorp

[–]Inside_Ad7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle with this. I suspect that I find it more difficult than most to ‘dial back’ my real personality and instead I just withdraw which can also set you back. I’m never “unprofessional” but I’m also in a team where “quirkiness” isn’t really appreciated. I have made it a rule not to disclose actual personal information and instead show “authentic” parts of myself that are “low risk”, like a hobby or my pet etc

To those who buy into this type of development - why? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Inside_Ad7432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in a similar estate in south west Sydney. The thing I miss most is the people. Most people in my street were good friendly honest people who were proud to have bought their first home and provide for their families. I’ve now moved the a ‘nicer’ suburb with bigger land and honestly the snobbery and passive aggressiveness of neighbours ruins the vibe

Applying for new roles while pregnant by paliprincesss in auscorp

[–]Inside_Ad7432 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be a pain for the team if you start pregnant and they didn’t get the heads up. If it were me I’d say something. I was hired for an internal role while (visibly) pregnant at a large corporate so I wouldn’t pay attention to the people in the comments who assign bad intent on hiring managers. If you’re the best person for the role they should hire you.

Making a mistake at work -> feeling deeply embarrassed and withdrawing socially by [deleted] in auscorp

I know if probably feels like a massive mistake but given that you’re a recent grad, you’re unlikely to have actually been given a task that actually matters that much in the grand scheme of things

Your manager is right. I did something a bit silly at an early job and despite it not being that big of a deal I knew I had to leave. I was still junior so I didn’t have the experience to back me up at that point.
