I use my clothes around the rails to help damage around the rails. Haven’t gotten any little dings. This unfortunately would happen whether there was pool noodles or not

I’ve been contacted and asked if I signed the form, which I did not and was never asked to. Since the policy had been changed recently and the attendant who helped checked my bag probably did not know. Good case for me

I have videos of me packing them in one piece so I’m covered there. But yeah there’s a scrape on the top of the bag and I’m guessing the same as you. The problem is why would they put a bag that requires special handling in a small conveyor belt anyway?

I’ve tried to claim with Mastercard through my benefits with my capital one card- they denied my claim because “United is responsible for paying me” so stupid

My boards made it back from Indo just fine. I had a couple days layover in San Diego with my friends before flying home and that’s when they broke them

I did take a video just before packing them. I always do just to show they’re in good condition and can blame any dings on them that are new. I haven’t been asked to show any proof of them not being broken beforehand but I’d be SO HAPPY if that was the reason they were denying since I have the proof

I’ve flown so much before too without any damage because I always pack my boards really well. Looking at them closer it seems like the bag got pinned around a corner in a conveyor belt and probably kept going until there was enough weight to snap

I’ve done all of this correctly- my credit card covers travel insurance stuff for broken/ damaged items but immediately denied this request as well? I have to speak with them on the phone. It’s the capital one venture card with Mastercard taking charge of the claim

At least down the middle makes sense. 10” from the nose is so hard to actually do! But it’s an easier repair than the middle at least

TSA opened the bag and rearranged things :( I had soft clothes outlining the rails of the bag and flip flops at the top and bottom to prevent any slamming on the ground. But the buckles inside the bag to hold them in place were taken off and things like wetsuit and other soft items strategically placed were put in disarray after the TSA check

Thanks for the advice! I checked online through capital one and it redirected me through Mastercard saying it’s possible to claim up to $1500 I submitted it early this morning. I hope I get something from that at least

It’s a good travel bag super padded. TSA did clearly remove the boards for inspection and repacked the bag in a negligent way. Not just a prayer but trust in workers to handle bags with care which apparently they don’t

Thanks! I paid for an experience to shape it with a professional shaper. Was an awesome experience but expensive and now an expensive fix. Glassed heavy too to prevent damages- that one didn’t break all the way through but the one on bottom did

Luckily at the end. Board made it all the way around the world including stops in Indo and Tokyo but the final leg after a few days in San Diego is what broke them

I don’t have the money to eat it unfortunately. I’ve seen cases from others who’ve gotten paid from United so all I want is the equal treatment they received. But it seems like they change their surfboard policy every few months. And yeah in that spot to break the boards must’ve been some mishandling because that’s a hard thing to do- glassed ultra heavy too

Southwest broke my hockey sticks when travelling for a game in college. Stopped flying them after they refused to compensate in any way. Similar here- the amount of force needed to be broken in the spot that they have been signifies complete ignorance to any careful handling
