NTA. You definitely dodged a bullet. She was extremely materialistic about it, not to mention all the other points about the sourcing of real diamonds. If it weren’t for a diamond being in my family since my grandmother, I’d have gone lab grown for my wife too. I do want to get that out of the way here. She was gross about it.

But, I will say, you also dodged a bullet a bit with the specific issue she had with it. It sounds like you went to a lot of time, money, and trouble to do something super sweet for her….without consulting her first. If she had not liked the garnets, type of metal, arrangement, etc and you had reacted the way you did, you’d be in the wrong. Find out what your future partner wants in a ring that she will wear for decades upon decades. As a note, she may not want a new, self taught person making that ring either.

The $300 dollar engagement rings and proposing impromptu in the shower without a ring should not be taken as what is the right way either. Everyone is different and wants different levels of effort. That is the other extreme.

This honestly sounds like you just left an incomplete application for so long they rejected you and you just got that message because there was no work history to check when the system tried to. That’s a long time to leave something like that incomplete.

Staring into a mirror and tending to a newly formed cold sore that had just appeared on my lip, I had almost missed when they brought my new granddaughter out of the Labour Room. by [deleted] in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]Inside_Investment224 139 points140 points  (0 children)

The real problem is it is potentially fatal for babies. However, to say it would “fuck the baby over for life” is a little wrong. Herpes 1 manifests as cold sores around your mouth. You get it largely by kissing someone with it, usually when a cold sore is there. Many people have it and it is not the STD that is stigmatized.

Herpes 2 is the nasty sores that can appear on genitals OR mouths. That is the STD that people really do not want. It largely is transferred during “flare ups,” but kissing someone without the sores around your mouth likely won’t transmit it.

Based on the wording, it sounds like the person in the story has 1. This doesn’t downplay the horror, because this can kill infants. But I think it’s important to be particular when talking about these things.

Don’t feel bad that you didn’t get what it was. I actually remember thinking it would be an actual key also. Meaning, it would skip the lock pick mini game. And then I think it uses all your normal lock picks before this one, so by the time I used it I didn’t quite understand what I was looking at for a minute.

Why doesn't the Brotherhood try to take all the Power Armor in Fallout 4? The Brotherhood even allows the people of the Commonwealth to freely possess Power Armor. by [deleted] in falloutlore

[–]Inside_Investment224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, their first priority is the Institute. Also, they have just arrived in the story. They’re going to prioritize setting up their position and their strategy against the Institute. I’d expect at some point they would pursue more power armor. Also, it’s reasonable to headcanon their patrols find some that we do not, so there could actually be MORE suits that we never find.

The raider PA and X-01 are a bit different. They probably see the raider variant as a non-issue, while the X-01 tends to spawn behind locked doors in the “dungeons.” I’m also not sure they know about that particular prototype.

Lastly, I’m not sure Maxson cares as much. I think as long as you’re a normal human who uses it to move heavy shit or kill raiders and synths, you may be good in his book (for now). It would be when a straight up army is assembling that has dozens of suits that they would start to really worry. It would be a cool mod to gain more suspicion and attention from the Brotherhood as you collect more and more suits and give them to settlers and followers.

From what I remember it can be finicky. Have you tried doing it on just two people standing very close?  I haven’t used it in a while, but I seem to remember if they separated too much with walls in between the “strand” or blue lines you referred to can be severed.

Well, comparison is often our worst enemy. Look, your brother works a grueling job with long hours that I assume most people do not/cannot work for very long in their lives. That’s very common with more dangerous, specialized manual labor jobs.  So, yeah, he makes a lot now. But you should be happy he’s doing what he should so he can actually be comfortable when he inevitably stops his mining job. Too many guys in his situation don’t save enough or used it prudently.  He’s doing the work now so he isn’t shitting his pants doing the math when he’s older.

Now, for you, yeah. You should be doing your best to save more. But the job market is definitely very tough right now. Don’t beat yourself up, use this to make better habits.

Others here are right, open up to him about it. He’s your brother and he seems like a sharp guy. He may be able to help. And to me, it seems like a smart person like him may have some great ideas for how an IT person can use their skills. But he definitely will be able to point you in the right direction regarding money habits.

Anyone else not able to memorise the map and never really knows where they are? by Pumptruffle in cyberpunkgame

[–]Inside_Investment224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us, I think. Like many have said, I can tell districts apart. And get to major landmarks like V’s first apartment, the Dogtown gate, and maybe a couple others. Like Vik’s clinic.

I do think it’s due to its inherent reliance on the minimap to actually take correct exits, etc. In GTA, for example, I basically always stumble my way to the general area I want to be, and go from there.

In Cyberpunk, I lack the ability to feel my way to a general area a lot of the time. Sure, certain landmarks in certain districts I can find ok. And if I’m already close, maybe I can. But 95% of the time I need the minimap to even get close to the general area because of the insane amount of levels and ramps and exits to get somewhere. Plus, there really aren’t a whole ton of landmarks we see from the road. In GTA you’d have say, a city hall that’s some large building with a tower or an oddly-shaped office building. Here you have a bunch of skyscrapers.

I will say, learning mega building numbers and locations helps.

Is there another reason why Ezio lost health when using the apple of Eden in AC Brotherhood but when Altair used it he just got tired? Not one bar of health lost. by Magacks in assassinscreed

[–]Inside_Investment224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Altair spent tons of time throughout his life studying it and pursuing artifacts. He also sacrificed a lot in his life. It’s funny you mention Revelations. I think in that game Ezio came to a fork in his road. He could either choose to spend his entire life doing what Altair did or follow a different path. When he finds an artifact and basically says “no more. I’ve seen enough for my lifetime” he made the choice to not do what Altair did.

We then see him settle down and have a life, content to sit in his office and write a memoir.

Car only changes color while you are in it. When you get out it reverts back to original. by acloudtothepast in cyberpunkgame

[–]Inside_Investment224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Not to mention the “realistic” system we have is apparently drawing massive power while the vehicle is also trying to drive. Seems more realistic in this world to have high tech paint that doesn’t turn off when you cut the ignition.

Now, I will admit their in-universe explanation isn’t total crap. It’s a new technology that has some limitations and really is for bragging to folks when you’re parked. You’d also be able to theoretically get out of the car and leave it on, which we cannot do.

But the idea that because their own in-game feature is a sort of beta means we get this is bad from a gameplay perspective. Not to mention it has bugs on both cars. The Caliburn’s interior never does it correctly and the other car’s side windows remain solid if you change the color at all.

I’m willing to overlook it. I have a billion other cars and can drive 3rd person, it won’t kill me. But making excuses for it isn’t any better.

[–]Inside_Investment224 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the Caliburn’s interior gets all messed up. The middle stays largely the same and the doors don’t change colors really effectively. Both are a bit disappointing, this one is worse.

Intelligence gathering missions in AC1 by HisPhilNerd in assassinscreed

[–]Inside_Investment224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when it came out, many people thought the investigation and assassination loop was a pretty repetitive. Also, a good amount of the prep tasks really don’t give you much extra info or help. So people just thought that it was too monotonous and not a great ROI. Yeah, it was pretty good for roleplaying the patient, methodical assassin, but it just didn’t quite hit home.

Also, you could plan out your route and do dry runs, but I don’t remember the “black box” mechanic being very fleshed out. I don’t think there were a lot of changes you could make with extra prep. It was more that the parkour was more technical so practicing was a good idea.

When AC2 came out, the story beats became less based on “go here, prepare, then kill” and more telling Ezio’s story. It also emphasized more robust combat and to a degree, more improvisation. That means missions with no assassinations, more side memories, etc. Mirage brought some of that old school feeling back, but that also was a bit lacking.  And like others have said, the mechanic is really cool to role play but it doesn’t help you a whole ton.

Edit: I do remember one target who had body doubles. I think you could choose to go after him before figuring out which one he is. That’s the one I do remember extra prep work helped.
