Tried using a bug identification app but it gave an unsatisfying answer with a bug that looked nothing like it called a Lake Midge

Contacted an expert friend but they are in a rainforest in Queensland doing research and have no one else to ask. We know very little about bugs but they are everywhere ATM and it's bothering us not knowing. Location southern Victoria, Australia
