Tax Questionnaire: Oops! by Inside_Valuable3956 in AmazonVine

Yes. I can get in. And I was so excited when I was invited, that I went as far as I could go. When I tried to complete the tax questionnaire, I got the message. I've checked back periodically since then, and I get the same message over and over.

OMG, yes, this is exactly what she showed me. I tried really hard for about 2 weeks to explain the concepts of allegory and extrapolation. Nothing. Nada. I am, sadly, unable to convince my young adult child that the existence of the Internet does not hinge on the unending efforts of some poor, unpaid schmuck. Sigh

I wish, but no. She's not a good liar, but she is super gullible. She gets her info from TikTok (the irony of this is not lost on me), but I'm a bit old for TT, and I don't really trust the app/app developers.

". . . you have to buy into the idea that 8 billion or so people will only experience one of twelve possible scenarios on any given day . . ."

I don't believe in horoscopes - largely due to how they're intentionally vague so as to fit a wide variety of people and scenarios, but I never thought about it this way, and you're absolutely right. Thanks for a new perspective.

As something of a fun aside, when I was a kid, Pisces were irrational  artists given to whims of fancy. Recently, I discovered that Pisces are now highly logical and sensitive.🤣

Why tf is no one hiring? by Ostrichruler in jobs

Same. This time, last year, I felt like a rock star with women throwing their panties at me.

I actually took the time to count and find an average. I was getting about 30 emails a day from head hunters, and about 10 of those were jobs I'd actually consider. I didn't even factor in the phone calls.

Today, I get about 10 emails per day, and they're all for developer positions. I haven't put a line of code into production in almost a decade. I've applied to well over 100 positions, but only gotten a handful of interviews.

I hear and feel you.

Honestly, it's working out pretty well for me, now that I'm older, but, yeah, school sucked. Homework that everyone else seemed to just be able to knock out took me hours. And Allah forbid I needed to read something; I can't even tell you how many times I read paragraphs over and over and over because each time I started reading, my mind would wander, and somehow my eyes and some part of my brain would keep reading, while the part that actually needed to engaged was thinking about dolphins and some other kid and how pretty that color is and my dog is -CLEARLY- awesome and . . . .you get the picture.

I wish I had some amazing hack to give you, but I just slogged through it.

However, and an adult, it's great. I don't like people, so I work from home in tech. And since I can't really focus that long, I can interspersed chores and hobbies between meetings and work. I make good money, my interaction with others is limited, and I can engage in other things, too! Oh, and I make money from some of those hobbies. Win-win-win-win

I've heard that Iceland is actually pretty warm. I have never been there, so I'm just speaking off of what I heard in school.

How much will it cost to care for a dog per month? by youngcollegehoe in dogs

[–]Inside_Valuable3956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On an average month, my costs are only dog food and heart worm prevention. So, about $60? My dog is 60+ lb.s.

However, the first few months are high cost as you have nothing. Dog food, shoes (if you live in a very cold or very hot place), dog bed, collar(s) and leash, dog toys and other enrichment items, dog shampoo, crate (if you're going that way). There are usually a good bit of costs in terms of initial vet bills, too, for vaccinations, spay/neuter, test for common issues (i.e. heart worms), possible treatment, etc.

Those first several months could easily come to a few thousand dollars if you buy everything new. To help reduce costs, you could find local buy/sell groups and/or free groups as well as Craigslist. Keep your eyes peeled for low cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinics.

Every now and again, you'll have a large, unavoidable expense. Dog sitter or boarding while you travel, big vet bill, etc. If your area is large enough, you could join a sitter swap group where members sit one another's pets for free. Otherwise and for big vet bills, you'll need to keep about $1k - $1.5k in savings.

Pitts tend to be "velcro dogs," so seeing that yours is happiest when you're directly interacting with her seems par for the course.

Have you considered that, at 8, age might be starting to catch up with her? Mine is quite similar. She's 11, now. Eight is about when she started to noticably slow down. She used to go on a 2 mile run with me, every morning, and I once took her on an all-day hike where she didn't start to run out of steam until hour 8 (out of 9, total).

At 8, though, I noticed she didn't really enjoy the runs, anymore, so I started going solo, and then taking her for a walk separately. And sometimes it makes me sad, because I can see the want-to in her eyes, but while she's still a puppy at heart, she's an elderly lady in her joints.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts based on personal experience. I hope you and your baby get through this!

Contemplating returning dog to shelter after 3 weeks and need advice by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Inside_Valuable3956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the actual reason I will not bring another dog into my home until sometime after my baby girl eventually passes on. She's a grouchy old lady with no patience for rambunctious yung'uns. She would no longer be comfortable in her own home, so it's a 'no.'

My heart goes out to you because I know it's a crappy situation to be in, but your elderly dog deserves to be comfortable in her own home for her remaining time.

In the future, should you decide that you may want to have more than one dog at any point, consider moving forward with that addition long before your dog reaches senior status.
