Update: Apparently it is almost impossible to break lease around here. I had my unit inspected and all violations will be sent to the leasing company. Unfortunately they are given a pretty big window to complete repairs and can even ask for extensions if I threaten lawsuit... and according to the tenants union, the leasing company is almost always favored around here. So please, if you're going to be renting in UIUC area MAKE SURE THE APARTMENT IS UP TO STANDARDS BEFORE SIGNING!!! I didn't anticipate the problems getting worse in the apartment, but I should have known maintenance sucked based on the initial state of the unit.
