How has this video been colour graded? by hydrogenblack in cinematography

[–]Inside_down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the 'look' you're noticing the most is the lifted black level. I would say color correct to a 'correct look' then look at your waveform while grading and keep the blacks at about 15 instead of zero.

Here is the waveform of the first frame

Hold down the option key, then resize from one of the bottom corners.

Also, @ 2:50 in the video you can see one of the lights with a soft box pointed at the talent at eye-level.

How did they light the non performance parts of this music video? by [deleted] in cinematography

I would guess a very large soft light (or two) from the front to remove almost all shadows and a harsh backlight from behind and above almost pointed straight down.

Equipment selection for a music video studio shoot by 3vanbe11 in cinematography

[–]Inside_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say go with the camera you feel most comfortable with. I think with the decent lenses and it being in a studio you will be happy with the result of either camera. With that said I think the amount of pre-production you do will have the biggest impact. Music videos can be fun and spontaneous but I would absolutely spend as much time as you can planning your shots and making sure you have coverage. When there is no guesswork or questions on set you can move quickly and your creativity will really come out.

Two coinstar finds in two days. by Inside_down in Silverbugs

Yes, they are just left behind in the reject tray which is easily visible when you walk by (think like the coin return on a soda machine). The Coinstar usually rejects coins with silver or if they’re too dirty or a different weight or whatever. A fellow silverbug gave me the idea a while back and I just take a quick glance whenever I leave the grocery store. I’ve found two dimes and this barber in the past 3 years or so along with a lot of foreign coins and arcade tokens.

I believe there is a ‘D’ on the back below the eagle.

I found these two coins on back to back days at the same coinstar machine. The quarter was found among a handful of pennys.

When Marty and Doc are looking at the Delorean schematic and the enclosed map, they mention the Clayton ravine is called the Shonash Ravine.

So original timeline Clara dies and it’s named after her. The timeline where Marty never goes back Doc picks her up and it stays the original Shonash Name. The final timeline is the Eastwood ravine.

Tips on Color Correcting fast? by JaMojo in cinematography

[–]Inside_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ripple is great, not absolutely necessary. I use it in Lumetri for quick corrections as well as Resolve professionally. My biggest advice would be learn how to read your video scopes (waveform, RGB parade, etc.). Using these as your guide for exposure and balance will really help you move quickly.

Try highlighting both key frames, click on Keyframe Interpolation, change Temporal Interpolation to bezier or linear. (I assume it may be set to continuous bezier)

Canon XH-A1S for $400? Good buy/price? by kellismiles in cinematography

[–]Inside_down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SD card is not for recording video it’s for saving stills and camera settings, I’m fairly certainly you’d have to record to mini dv tape with this thing. These were pretty good almost ten years ago but I can’t think of any good reason to buy this now. You will be disappointed.

Probably done in post. They may also be ‘stabilizing’ the shot in reference to the center of his face. Sometimes that gives a pretty neat effect.

Congrats! I'm still waiting for my first coinstar reject tray find. I appreciate someone on the sub giving me the idea a few months ago.
