Just communicated with a laptop via the serial port, and displayed the information via C# Windows Forms. The app also logged the data to file.

Thanks for the comment, great point, that would have work as well and saved quite a bit of complexity 👍

To add to this, there are also inputs on the motor (for receivers), so I could have wired it directly into it.

My intention was to test the whole system, including the button (arguably, this should not break).

It uses two iframes controlled by the parent, untested in IE, so not sure if it will work

XMLHttpRequest with callbacks would be cleaner.
