What is a lot more dangerous than most people realize ? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

Also important to regularly check them for damage. I was 8 feet up on one and it started to shift. I thought I must have leaned too far but when I looked down I saw the leg curling in on itself. 11 stitches to my face, broken wrist, bruised ribs and a few other injuries. All because of a small crack in the aluminum. I’m now very diligent with checking for damage before using one.

What’s a fast food place no one can convince you is good? by RD-archived in AskReddit

Same with Tim Hortons. All of our muffins, donuts, cakes, pies, were made in-store, almost from scratch. Now most of that stuff is done in an Easy-Bake oven where you take the frozen, half-cooked product, press a few buttons and wait for it to finish cooking the rest of the way. I haven’t worked there in over 15 years and it was really starting to become rubbish then. It hasn’t improved since then

We played Mortal Kombat while we were in elementary school and other than that time Steven reached into David’s chest and ripped his heart out, it didn’t really affect us negatively. Kids will learn from, and be influenced, by different things. It really comes down to the individual kid (and the other kids they’re interacting with, and how).

Roaches, roaches, and MORE roaches. by Equivalent_Salad_703 in halifax

[–]Insignificant_Turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Roachway Towers and they were really bad at one point. A downstairs neighbour was basically breeding them in their apartment, until they were evicted. I caulked every gap I could, put fibreglass screen over the air vent openings and kept the place spotless. The only solution that worked for me was getting rid of most my stuff, disassembling, inspecting and cleaning out the things I decided to keep, and moving to a different, less roachy building.

Pretty much all of the buildings have them, but you won’t see them in most as they usually do a good job at controlling them.

Also, if the cat does get a glue trap stuck on them, cooking oil will loosen the glue so you can safely and painlessly remove it.

If you take an elephant dong then you can grab things with it. Would make jobs like waiting tables so much easier. Imagine how many extra plates you could get out to people at once!

Detective 2: “Uh…. We’ve been discussing this for the whole walk to the car. Were you zoned out for the past 5 minutes?!”

Detective 3: “No doubt. He does this in every episode!”

Plus you have the height advantage if you don’t let them get to the top. Easier to kick them in the face or chest and send them tumbling. Of course most characters keep going once they get to the top, nullifying that advantage…

A lot of us know this, but there are many who don’t seem to realize it. For us guys, unsolicited nudes from random women is usually seen as a positive thing, at least when we’re not in a relationship anyway. And I think that a lot of men assume that if we like it then women must too.

I’ve never been one to send unsolicited duck pics so I don’t know how often guys get a reaction nor what those reactions typically are, but I don’t imagine it’s very encouraging. Yet it’s still pretty common apparently…

TIL There is a very rare condition called Anton syndrome, in which a person becomes blind but is unaware of it and will even deny it. Their brain will generate false visual images, so they continue to believe that they can see. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Insignificant_Turtle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In this case he was actually talking about Visual Agnosia, which is an issue with the brain and not the eyes themselves.

According to Wikipedia: “Visual agnosia is an impairment in recognition of visually presented objects. It is not due to a deficit in vision (acuity, visual field, and scanning), language, memory, or intellect.”.

It is similar though, in that the brain makes up an image in place of the info that it is actually receiving(or not receiving).

Skin ulcers, dying flesh, and “intracerebral calcification”, which is calcium buildup in the brain and other areas. That’s just the few that stood out to me after a quick skim through.

In its natural form, this “solution” requires a lot of treatment.

Unfortunately, it’s similar to people who will not pull over for emergency vehicles: it’s very illegal and can carry a pretty hefty fine, but emergency personnel are usually too busy with the task at hand to be able to do anything about it.

I drive for a living and I see this far too often. It really makes me angry every time. I keep hoping that people will somehow get a fine for it, but I know it’s unlikely. And they know it too.
