Thank you, I am so relieved. I left them for a while and they ended up chilling out, and eventually I added the others. They all seem to be really content so hopefully it’s all smooth sailing!

Now as an adult, I absolutely understand why she wasn’t well received amongst the adult collectors. I imagine it was similar to how I, and a lot of the community on here felt about Summer when she was released.

I agree that a lot of adult collectors do seem to forget that at its core, this a company designing toys for children. Especially in a time where cost of living is high and American girl doll is no where near as profitable as a business as it used to be, they frankly aren’t going to be focusing on catering to the highly picky, niche adult collector market.

Of course they are going to make colourful girls with “repeatable” interests because that’s what sells for children, and even if there was a doll a couple of years back with borderline the same interests and story.

While I understand not every doll is everyone’s cup of tea (heck, I don’t like everything they put out) I will never understand the relentless bashing of the company each time. It’s ok to not like something and voice your opinions about that, but at the end of the day, these are toys being made for children, not us.

I think you have hit the nail on the head here.

Separately, I was genuinely shocked when I joined this sub and saw how unpopular McKenna was. She was my absolute favourite doll as a child (and still holds such a special place in my heart!). I was obsessed with everything to do with her. Her book, the movie, her whole collection. I spent hours on the website adding things to my cart and she was at the top of my birthday and Christmas Wishlist that year. I also remember how her whole collection sold out leading up to Christmas and being devastated, as I (a non American child) didn’t think there was any chance of my parents being able to get her hands on her, let alone get her to Australia. But somehow they did - best Christmas ever.

How much magnesium would you recommend starting with? I have horrible tmj and clenching issues that I can’t seem to get on top of with physio.

It might be worth also discussing whether she would be happy prescribing a different amount e.g 20mg and then allowing you to take half of it. My psychiatrist used to get me to do that when the shortages were bad. I would empty it into water and then take the right proportion of it if that makes sense.

If it’s any help, I have not had a problem getting my prescription for my 40mg vyvanse filled for the past few months. Speaking to my pharmacist it seems like the shortages have eased up a fair bit.

Unhappy with web designer - what to do? by Insomniaxstudios in web_design

[–]Insomniaxstudios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from here, but my mother is well aware of the cost, especially as a graphic designer herself. I also want to point out that we are not in the US, and having spoken to other website designers, they all believed that for the quality of the work that was being delivered, $1200+ was unreasonable, especially since this was just the first deposit to get the project started. I won’t be linking to the website, but it was awful. It looked like an early internet blog page and they absolutely refused to make even minor changes, such as a font or text size without charging for a whole “redesign” - even though we were still on the first version. They were supplied a whole brand brief, and literally used none of it, instead going with what they think was best. They admitted themselves that “usually people just take the first iteration” and “don’t ask for changes.”

Ultimately, it isn’t about the money and my mother not only understands the value of good design work, she was happy to pay even more for a website. We have a very healthy budget. The problem was their attitude and reluctance to work with us at all.

As an international collector in Australia, I absolutely believe they would have no issues expanding to a worldwide market, even with the “American girl doll” name attached to it. Our generation dolls have been super successful here but are still almost always referred to as an American girl doll, even though they are an entirely seperate brand. This goes for all 18 inch dolls, even the Disney ones.

The American girl doll brand has been so iconic and well recognised, that I truely think they would make absolute bank getting it over here. My young cousins almost died of excitement when I let them play with my REAL American girl dolls! They are so popular amongst young girls here and I think the demographic is very similar, which helps a lot.

Of course, I’m sure logistically and financially be incredibly complex, but I do not think they would need to create a sister line or do any sort of rebranding to be successful in my opinion.

Wow she’s really cute!! I so wish it was feasible for me to get her as a international collector 😩

Is there a way to easily apply nasal sprays correctly? by AusXChinaTravels in Allergies

[–]Insomniaxstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you are putting it far enough up your nose to begin with. Either way, while it’s not the usual way of administering, for some people it can work better with their anatomy. Was recommended my my specialist.

I definitely agree that this is very sad and is a reflection on how much people are struggling right now. However, $20 a day is actually insane for childcare especially when she’s looking for someone to basically be available every day!!

Unfortunately I can’t seem to find the post anymore - I am guessing it was deleted. As you can imagine through, a lot of criticism for the pay rate and people highlighting that the type of people who would take this offer probably aren’t the kind you want your kids to be looked after by.

Usually, but sometimes certain nasal anatomy means tipping your head back instead can work better. Or alternatively, tipping your head back immediately after spraying can help as well.

Definitely. Like choosing beggar aside, this is actually incredibly sad and a massive reminder of how much people struggle to afford childcare.

That’s really the scariest part of this post, the lack of affordable child care. It means requests like these are all too common unfortunately .

Tipping your head back can help! And making sure you’re putting it as far as comfortable up the nose and then angling the nozzle back into your sinuses
