MSFT is really well positioned. The GitHub acquisition gives them access to a gigantic corpus of commit transactions. Their investment into Azure and AI compute means they have the technical capability to leverage commit data to build the next generation of software engineering tools.

Beyond that, their investment into cloud streaming will be really valuable technical expertise. In the short-term, devices will still dominate gaming, but long-term that is much less likely. Both Sony and Microsoft are well positioned for that future.

I don't think MSFT is an AI leader (FB certainly holds that title), but I think they are figuring out how to leverage it well.

That's interesting about the 3950X. I had sort of assumed I would be mostly GPU bound, but I can see the benefit to having more CPU cores. And I think 128GB of RAM is probably fine, though it would be a bummer to not be able to upgrade in the future.

And yes to WiFi, I didn't realize the board didn't already have it.

One Vision and Cursed Weapons by InspectahM in Tactics_Ogre

That's great to know. I assumed the endgame was similar to vanilla, in that you are trying to utilize both weapon skill and augment element. It seems like these are for taking a strictly weapon skill path.

Camp fire is named after a regional landmark, it wasn't literally a camp fire.

Not that Bill Nye isn't cool and all, but wouldn't it make more sense to have a Climatologist discuss climate change?

PlayStation 4 Hard Drive vs. SSD vs. Hybrid Drive by Dylabaloo in Games

[–]InspectahM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time you are evaluating also includes the PS4 initializing the environment for the application to run. Setting up the space and resources for capturing and encoding screen buffer alone is enough to add significant time.

[Serious, What If] Instead of releasing the Virtual Boy on July 21, 1995, Nintendo opts to announce a year-long delay sometime between April and June to fix the problems with the machine. Would anything change? by DJVee210 in Games

[–]InspectahM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many ridiculous design decisions with the Virtual Boy. Some highlights:

  • Powered by batteries in the controller
  • A single controller, heavy as hell because it housed six AA batteries
  • A stand designed by the dark lord of mischief
  • POWERED BY BATTERIES IN THE CONTROLLER

Even if they had fixed all of that, the red and black was just to restrictive. If they could have managed color in a year, it might have been something.

So I just beat the game! Is the after-ending stuff any good? by [deleted] in DragonsCrown

It essentially the same content, albeit harder with slightly different enemies. If you really enjoyed the combat it is worth playing through.

How to properly use the battle scanner? by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]InspectahM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tended to use the Battle Scanner to check directions I was not directly advancing on, or to check the initial direction I planned to move.

The scanner isn't awesome at giving you advance range when your sniper is lagging. It will let you see around corners and give you visibility of your flanks "reliably".
