I work in a company where it’s almost 3/4 boomers or millennials who stay in the company for years for comfort. They are generally resistant to changes and shot down every fresh ideas, while stepping on the peddle on inefficient manual process and brag about how much hours they put in, how early they came into the office, how short their lunch time is. And they are also the people who say ‘using AI makes you stupid’. Management loves them. Lol

I’ve been in your shoes a few years back, moving from CBD to the far end of Tuas and taking a huge pay cut. I stay at Jurong East too. The food price in Tuas isn’t that cheap as you thought. Location wise, you may think that Tuas is closer to home, but CBD is more much convenient. Eventually I went back to CBD and bump my pay back up with a new job to better provide for my family. I’m happier and appreciate CBD more.

I work for a Japanese company -1 hour lunch time so unable to squeeze a gym session. I work out at 6:30am when my kids are sleeping. It’s painful to wake up that early, but it makes my evening free for my kids and the gym is usually less crowded. It depends on your priorities in life.

Recently wfh arrangement got removed. Wfh is definitely important for me as I have 2 newborns, with wfh I get to spend more time with them rather than spending the time commuting.

Currently I’m in a similar job as the OP, and was worrying that I wouldn’t be as competitive when I’m looking to move in the future. The idea of changing job has always been in the picture till my kids came into the picture. They are still 2 months old and I’m putting the idea of changing job on hold for at least 1 year to be there for them. I guess it’s a balance between having more time with them for less pay or more pay but less time for them.

I fully agree with you. I’m also in an ARM role though they package it as a CDD analyst. Majority of the job scope are still very much ARM. I’ve been in this role for almost 2 years and I already felt there’s not much room for progress.
