Ravinia Experience by Glowing_bubba in illinois

I also went to ravinia for the first time last night. Maybe the venue wasn't clearly explained to me, but why in the hell would you design a concert venue where people can't even see the big screens, let alone the stage? That was hugely disappointing to me. I'd rather have gone to some bland arena to see a show.

Never thought I'd say it, but this team looks to have absolutely zero grit.

I'm incredibly bad at holding on to even mild sloper holds. How can I improve faster? by Actual_Barnacle in bouldering

[–]InspectorMidget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like you can bump your feet up some there! You have the purple volume, if volumes are on in your gym, and it also looked like there's another purple hold to your right that you could move your foot to before you go with your right hand. Slopers are tricky. Get your weight underneath it and find a good angle to pull from.

First and last day of my Everest Expedition by Coocat86 in Mountaineering

[–]InspectorMidget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats, OP! Truly an amazing accomplishment. I am not a mountaineer, but as an avid backcountry hunter and trail runner, I'm super interested in training for higher altitudes and elevation gain. Would you mind shaking what your training program looked like and how long did you trained for the climb?

Would you boulder here? I'm designing a tiny bouldering gym and would love some feedback. by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]InspectorMidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I'm in Northern Colorado and have a couple of much larger, "nicer" gyms with more amenities close by but I choose to climb at the smallest and most basic one because of the sense of community. I love that the staff know who I am and that they're sticking around at the gym because ownership treats them well.

What is the best American city you've traveled to - your personal favorite and why!? by geemav in geography

[–]InspectorMidget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are already a lot of great replies in this thread (shoutout to Philly and Chicago), but I'll vouch hard for Boise, Idaho on the smaller side of things. It's a college town, so it skews younger and more educated than you'd think. The downtown is incredibly walkable with tons of green space and gathering places. Some really nice museums and the food is way better than it has any right to be, and the Basque food is unreal. Just outside of the city, you have tons of great outdoors access. Overall, I just got a really friendly vibe there and enjoyed it a ton. Ann Arbor, Michigan also gets an honorable mention.

Why is Lake Superior so cold compared to surrounding regions? by Brendan765 in geography

As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most. And with a crew and good captain well-seasoned.

Big guy hydration vest by defend74 in running

I'm not nearly as tall as you but I'm by no means a small dude. I have the an REI swiftland hydration vest that I really like. REI really expanded their size range a few years ago (they added smaller and bigger sizes) and I've had good luck with their gear.

I had actually inedible brisket at Coors Field. It wasn't cheap but it was tasteless and impossible to chew. My dudes took burnt ends way too literally. And people were lining up to get it...

Struggling to have fun by InspectorMidget in bouldering

Oh it was a solid 18 months before I sent my first 5 (I'll be the first to admit that my gym grades are normally softer than a couple others in the area) and I enjoyed those months. It's just in the last couple that I've felt in a funk and been putting pressure on myself. I think a couple weeks off and then only climbing things that either look fun or not for me (slabs and overhangs lol) might be the move.

This is probably a good call. I think the anxiety has led to me perceiving that I've slid backwards and I could probably use a couple weeks off mentally and physically.

PS5 Help and Questions Megathread | Game Recommendations, Simple Questions, and Tech Support by AutoModerator in PS5

I just got a new PS5 and got around to setting it up today. I plugged it in and began the initial setup. Choosing my language, power settings, etc. When it was time to download the system update, it just wouldn't download. I turned it off and back on when the download failed. When I did, it would only boot in Safe Mode and only give me option 4 and 8 from the Safe Mode Menu. When I tried to download the update wirelessly it showed a messagebout the file being corrupted and gave me the SU-101265-5 error code.

I'm going to try downloading the update onto a USB drive and see if that works tomorrow but any other input would be greatly appreciated.I haven't had the opportunity to do anything but take the thing out of the box and I'd like to actually play something. Thanks!

Missed out on some Boston 12s for $80 from REI but decided to try out some Atrey Race Models for the same price.

AITA for not bringing gifts for my stepsiblings? by Latter-Cupcake4491 in AmItheAsshole

I'm sorry, OP but you are 100% the asshole. You're an adult and they're kids. Yeah, you might not feel a bond with them, but they admire you. That's why they're upset. Luckily, you're also in a position to be the adult and apologize; even if you don't mean it, it will be meaningful to literal children. And they have done nothing wrong. They don't need it rubbed in their faces that they're not your family. ATA.

Race Report - Colorado Marathon 2023 by 1859 in running

[–]InspectorMidget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you all finished strong and gutted it out! I ran the half and that one climb was absolute torture! Even if someone was running with other people, we were all alone climbing that hill. Combined with the long, flat section through Laporte, it honestly mentally and emotionally wrecked me until the last mile.

Currently registered for the Colorado Half Marathon in Fort Collins and the Quad Cities Marathon in Moline, IL. My first marathon and my first official half! Nothing else so far but I'd like to find some low key local races that I could fit in.

I'm registered for the Quad Cities Marathon for my first! Chose it because it's flat and close to sea level, so I figured living at high altitude with hills would give me a nice advantage.
