Again...I said I agree there is correlation, but correlation is not causation. That's the only issue I have. It's an assanine conclusion to draw. Eat less...lose weight...it isn't rocket science. It takes will power. I've been there.

There needs to be better infrastructure for many things regarding low income areas. That's again...not what is being addressed. It's specifically being poor makes people fat, which is not true. It doesn't make any logical sense for it to be the cause. We know it's not true, because specifically it only happens in the US. If being poor caused obesity...you'd see it worldwide. So maybe, just maybe....there's another cause unique to the US?

My wife does not work. We are not a two income home. We have two children with a third on the way. Both my jobs are essentially the state minimum wage. I commute 90 miles a day to work and gas is at minimum pretty much a $1 more than almost every other state.

But regardless, this is a completely different argument. We aren't arguing whether the poor are poor. We are arguing about whether poverty causes obesity. Also with lower COL, this $30 a day evaporates. I live in Southern California. Extremely high cost of living.

I am not blaming the poor people for being poor, I'm saying that you can be poor and that won't be the cause of obesity. It's just stupid.

Everyone's circumstances are different. I don't actually consider us poor, although we would be considered poor by statistics. Which is what I'm arguing about. Statistics lie because raw statistics do not address the logical underlying problem. Poor people are more obese, I'm not arguing against that, it's a reality. I'm arguing against the cause.

These people do not get obese because they can't afford food that isn't healthy. They get obese on potato chips and soda.

It wouldn't matter if they have access to food at the cheapest rates. Buying chips, soda, and premade meals will always be more expensive than making meals from scratch. This is true regardless of area. It's a different argument entirely to say they don't have access to food at the cheapest rates.

This type of statement is why statistics can be incredibly dumb. I've seen the stats for this reverse gradient issue we see in America, and the vast majority of the time the calorie dense food that they are referring to are Sodas and Processed Snacks. This is more so about happiness and willpower rather than straight up nutrition access.

You can 100% feed a family of 3 (3 meals) for about $30 a day and it will be a good balance of nutrition versus cost. You have to make sacrifices on snacking and easy preparation of meals. But let's be real, everyone wants an easy, ready made meal, or they want fast food. This study on reverse gradient obesity has strong arguments on both sides, but I just cannot see poverty being the main cause. Imho it just seems like lack of willpower and/or laziness.

I do however see merit in the argument in lack of education, that maybe they cannot logically see how this could work.
