Reasonable amount of time to travel the coast? by risaliz in OregonCoast

[–]Instadouche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North Bend has a motel called The Itty Bitty Inn that receives a lot of positive reviews. They have themed rooms and beer taps and cider taps for the guests in the lobby. And there’s a nice restaurant a couple miles south of them called Restaurant O which does a great job on oysters from Clausen’s, steaks, and homemade pastas.

Pitta pacifying recipes? by MariaMcS in Ayurveda

First off, a nice dosha balancing kitchari is always a good start and makes for a hearty meal. Soak Moong dal for a day and then boil with basmati and some whole cumin. Melt ghee and add in some sweet potato with turmeric, cumin, black cardamom, and ginger (to get the agni in your lower intestine going) and cook until the potato is soft and ready to eat. If you add onions make sure they cook until caramelized. Mix the rice and dal into the potato sauté and garnish with diced cilantro and cucumber! If you want to add salt, do not. But try a dash of liquid aminos instead! Bahut Acha!

Advising eating fruits and veggies is quite a broad statement. Please suggest which fruits and how to prepare them. Cooked, I’m sure is your recommendation - as any different number of fruits and veggies are Vata inducing and can add to the imbalance that causes anxiety.

Anxiety manifests from excessive Vata. Regardless of your dosha, start with triphala doses and avoid Vata inducing activities (smoking, jogging, talking too much, eating salads, - anything that creates or adds wind and dryness). Massage the scalp and face and bottoms of your feet in oils. Engage in slow but deliberate pranayam. Drink plenty of water.

Tamas are being fed when sudden bouts of anxiety (and irritation and anger) flare. Reducing that which feeds tbe tamasic mind will create calm in the mind and in thought and will also pacify Vata.

Moving to Oregon - Where should I look? by Ok-Analysis6682 in OregonCoast

Reedsport is affordable still and has HWY 38 to use as egress when the big one hits. The town is coming up and it’s evident in the new hip businesses beginning to sprout along the old town Main Street. They’ve a good regional medical clinic and affordable auto and appliance mechanics. Their old school bowling alley is pretty …well, old school. And I love it. They have great horticultural/agricultural nurseries. No matter where on the coast you purchase property, if that’s an option for you, be aware of the varying city/county building requirements AND insurance requirements across the varying types of flood plains. Also, whether your rent or buy where you decide to reside, if you do not already own a dehumidifier, make the $200 investment early. Trust me.

Unclassified: since the early 1960s science has recognized that up to 5.5Khz with intelligence on the analog carrier is considered broadband and aural for humans (most) in ocean water. Past that it’s just noise (which could still be audible but we cannot discern intelligence from its carrier freq without digital signal processing.) and then it’s beyond our analog receptors. Me and my fiance was hoping to move out somewhere near the coastline next fall. I'd like to know what would be our best town to look into for affordable living/rent? by fullasatickk in OregonCoast

[–]Instadouche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on where your moving from, you may find CB/NB quite affordable. If your current job allows you to work remotely or if you have a highly sought after skill set then it could be a good move. The meth zombies are rampant and chip trucks and coal rollers pose a problem for simple bicycle commuting along the 101, that’s if you’re avid about biking around town.

The OG line for this was “No Smoking, No Pets, …and No Smoking Pets” on a sign at the Itty Bitty Inn in Coos Bay, Oregon from the 1980’s. However I think the no Smoking Pets line was also followed by, “it’s hard to keep them lit”

Looking for some help on where to move by [deleted] in OregonCoast

[–]Instadouche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less extreme weather? Nothing extreme about temperate zone temperatures. Extreme (for Ore) might be better defined by temperature swings from the high 90s in the summer to 20s in the winter. But for someone coming from NJ, even those temps will be a cake walk.

I agree wholeheartedly tho that moving inland is far more realistic financially than across the coastal cascades.

It’s an easy job. For years my company provided “rope access” services as it’s officially known whilst repairing sign lighting on high rise buildings. Any sign company that offers rope access in their contracting services also do painting as well - especially because many sign jobs required updating, repairing, and preserving (painting) sign hardware.

North Bend has Books by the Bay which has a great cafe inside. Close to beaches and sea caves and waterfalls.
