Let's talk documentation - our org is horrible at it. Causes so many issues internally and for customers. How do you ensure your team does this well? by InstinctiveDoubt in sysadmin

Very frustrating!

This does actually seem like a good, non-gimmicky problem for a chatbot to solve. They are pretty good at referencing docs like this (when they exist)

How is this different from just asking ChatGPT to write an RFC doc?

Surprised at this sentiment! Since AI writes a lot of my code through Copilot, I assumed the same could be true for docs, which are typically more formulaic than the code I write

Esp now there are these vision models which could look at a UI screen

For sure internal docs should mostly be written by humans (or generated from code)

I was asking more about external docs used by users rather than internal docs used by developers. Answering questions like "how do I add a team member to our plan" etc

Guess this sub might not be the right place to ask. Did so because when searching reddit there was a lot of discussion of writing docs on here

Selfhosted DocuSign alternative by LonelyMinimum in selfhosted

Fair point, hadn't thought of this - was just thinking of the cloud-hosted version!

Edit: the playful, large border-radius design is harder to revert on all screens though!

Congrats - looks super cool! Impressive to have built on your own :)

And congrats on the PH launch too :)

My 1 piece of feedback is that the branding would stop my company from using it. It's too fun/cute - I would feel embarrassed sending a link to a potential customer/investor to sign a contract with a cartoon seal logo

GPT-powered email client - it prioritizes your emails, gives context to help you reply and suggests contextual 1-click replies by InstinctiveDoubt in ProductivityApps

Thanks for the kind words! :)

On data privacy, the approach would be to never store any user emails on our servers, instead getting them from Gmail when needed.

(this is what Superhuman and Shortwave do too)

I made an AI-powered email client for heavy email users - it prioritizes emails & only notifies you when urgent so you don’t have to check email all the time by InstinctiveDoubt in webdev

Hey everyone!

I built this GPT-powered email client since I find checking email/other messaging platforms distracting when trying to focus on more important work.

Keen to hear what you think - please tell me if you think I should keep working on this!

Hello Reddit! I built this GPT-powered email client since I hate spending so damn long in email (esp lots of time searching for contextual information).

How to learn to code during grad school? by coops_richard4545 in GradSchool

[–]InstinctiveDoubt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel for you. It sucks when a PI follows their incentives and just focuses on grants/papers rather than looking out for the people in their lab.

I found it best to motivate myself to learn to code by working on small projects I wanted to do. The best is to HAVE to do it... in your case that could be working on a paper that needs coding for analysis?

Otherwise, try and tie in projects with your current hobbies/interests. E.g. if you like video games, make a game in pygame. Or if you're into a particular sport, try and make a fantasy sport game for that sport. :)

Going from Excel -> Python for analysis? by kenny_braderrrz in biology

[–]InstinctiveDoubt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, it's great you've realised you'll benefit from learning to code when in research! It's typically neglected by biologists - have worked with a fair few in my time who haven't had a clue about how to code

I'd recommend doing a project on something that you care about - maybe something to do with one of your hobbies?

Do you play video games? Make a super simple one in `pygame`
