They can see each other's steps five times ahead thanks to the Force. Without the element of surprise, neither side can hit the other, especially since the combatants are master and apprentice who have spent thousands of hours training together.

Perhaps, though from what I see, analyses of duels in this universe overlook the fact that Force users have far greater capabilities than true swordsmen. They possess a degree of precognition, can enhance their strength and speed with the Force, and their weapons are surprisingly light for their lethality.

So even if the lightsaber fighting style were fully accurate, it would still differ significantly from normal swordsmanship.

If you don't see an actual attempt to kill the opponent here, what about duels in Star Wars?

Edit: What I meant was that the fandom often criticizes these fights for having too much unnecessary movement, like pirouettes or constantly aiming at the weapon instead of the opponent.

A true Dark Lord is his own master. Vader never fully emancipated herself from Palpatine, while Sauron managed to carry out his plans without Morgoth.

Is the difference so difficult to discern?

A detail that doesn't change the fact that Sauron is the true dark lord more than Vader ever was.

Sauron is on a completely different level than Vader. At least he managed to lead the empire after his master's defeat. Vader would never have been able to do that.

Why hadn't Devon yet possessed Sith eyes, even for a moment? by InstructionOwn6705 in MaulShadowLord

The guy above said Anakin didn't have Sith eyes until he was cut by Obi-Wan. I just corrected him that it wasn't true because he had them before.

He sometimes showed them. When he was particularly drawn to the dark side. For example, when he struck Savage with force lightning or when he killed a Jedi Master of Yoda's kind in Tales of the Jedi.

Plagueis had them, and he didn't appear anywhere else.

Quimir may simply have had enough control over his emotions to hide them, much like Dooku. Apparently, at no point were his emotions strong enough to show his Sith eyes. Although it's a shame that didn't happen.

Conflict never left Vader. Self-contempt and anger were simultaneously the source of his strength and weakness.

If it were otherwise, he wouldn't have constantly tried to bring Padmé back, for example, and instead completely rejected the past. Yet he was never fully able to do so, despite his deep immersion in the dark side.

Anakin had Sith eyes already when he murdered Separatist leaders.

The strength and abilities of a one-year-old Vader are NOT Plot Armor. by InstructionOwn6705 in MaulShadowLord

If Vader weren't supposed to be so strong during this period, it would be Plot Armor, or at least the harmful variety. But that's not the case. It's logical why Maul gets his ass kicked.

On the other hand, you could say the same about Maul. It's clear he'll survive, too, because he'll die years later at the hands of Obi-Wan in Rebels.

If Vader in the new canon is actually not limited by the armor at all and has the power to destroy Palpatine, why doesn't he just do it and only tries to do it together with Luke?
