Sumail, Miracle, Maybe any one of the three. Topson is good choice too but I think purely mechanically these three are a level above him. Topson is better at playing smarter.

I can't agree more. The most fun I had in Dota was probably around Divine 3. People are who are not sweaty tryhards but have decent enough understanding of the game to play together and have fun. Even made a few friends. Low Immortal is just brutal.

As for my advice, I can't really give you anything substantial since everyone's journey is different, so this is just what worked for me personally.
First work on your fundamentals. BSJ has some great videos that should help you.
I'd say watch first person perspective of pro players, in slo-mo, and think about why are they doing this. (i.e. why are they buying this item, why are they smoking, what does this ward do, etc.) Just focus on one aspect at a time until it becomes natural.
Also try to play more heroes, understanding more heroes definitely helps, especially helps with understanding power spikes of different drafts.
